p.m. Dr. Billy J. Owensby
will conduct the confer
ence. “Dr. Owensby will
teach about events like the
‘Tribulation,’ 'The Rapture,’
'The Ford’s Return’ and the
antichrist will be revealed
as the liar he is," leaders
state. Dr. Owensby is a
native of Commerce and
is currently the pastor at
Union Baptist Church in
Hull. He has pastored other
churches in Fouisiana and
Northeast Georgia. He is
the founder and president
of North Georgia Baptist
Theological Seminary
and S.T.E.P. Ministries
(Spiritually Training &
Equipping People). Dr.
Owensby holds an ADiv
Degree and a BGS Degree
from New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary.
He is also a graduate
of Bethany Theological
Seminary where he
earned a Master Degree
and is also a gradu
ate of Fouisiana Baptist
Theological Seminary
from which he earned a
Doctor of Ministry. Other
works by Dr. Owensby

“The Expositor’s Notes: I
Timothy," “The Expositor’s

Commerce First
United Methodist
Church will host an
evangelism rally Saturday,
Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to 3
p.m. in the church sanc
tuary. Guest speakers
will include the Rev. Tom
Atkins, Dr. Ron Tyler, the
Rev. Dick McClain, Fuella
Krieger, and the Rev. Bob
Beckwith. The program
will consist of a morning
and afternoon session with
“how to" workshops. Each
session has four work
shops to choose from. The
workshops are sponsored
by the United Methodist
Church Athens-Elberton
district and Gainesville
district. The event is open
to all. The cost is $10 per
person, payable at the
door, and includes a

County, will have a hobo
supper and silent auction
Saturday, Jan. 31, from 5 -

six to twelve and free for

will hold a fifth Saturday
night singing Saturday, Jan.

Commerce Presby
terian Church will host
a “Prayer for These Times"
service Sunday, Feb. 8, at
4 p.m. “We are relating
it to the economic down
turn, the change in govern
ment and all of the chal
lenges we’re facing as a
nation," explained the Rev.
Monty Nelson, the church
pastor who is organizing
the ecumenical service.
Working with Nelson are
the pastors of the First
Baptist and First United
Methodist churches, and
they’re working to get
other churches on board
for the service as well.
“We’ll send out invitations.
We’re trying to get as many
other pastors as we can,"
said Nelson. “There will
be readings, liturgy, prayer
times, a brief exposition of
the Word and we may have
some music." The church
is located at 89 Fakeview
Drive.

Zion Hill Baptist
Church, Carnesville, will
hold its “Men’s Day" pro
gram Sunday, Feb. 22, at
2:30 p.m. The guest speak
ers will be the Rev. Anthony
Burns and Stephan Burns,
along with Eric Whitfield.
The theme is “The Role of
the Man" and churches are
asked to bring their male
choirs.
Commerce First
United Methodist
Church’s youth group
will go on a winter retreat
Friday through Sunday,
February 27 - March 1,
for Bible study and fel
lowship in Pigeon Forge,
Tenn. There will be an
outing on Saturday to
Ober Gatlinburg to ski or
to snow tube. The group
will also be a part of a
community service proj
ect sponsored by World
Vision called “Hoops of
Hope." The money raised
will benefit orphaned
children in Africa. It’ll be
a great project, leaders
state. For more informa

Hope." The group will also
sell Krispy Kreme certifi
cates for $5 per dozen.
There is no expiration
date on the certificate.
Profits will help defray the
costs of the winter retreat.

ing for community service
