downturn in the economy.

clothes closet open to
the public Wednesday,
Feb. 4, from 5:30 to 6:30

between 5:30 and 6:30

Presbyterian Church
will host a “Prayer for
These Times" service
Sunday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m.
“We are relating it to the
economic downturn, the
change in government
and all of the challenges
we’re facing as a nation,"
explained the Rev. Monty
Nelson, the church pas
tor who is organizing
the ecumenical service.
Working with Nelson are
the pastors of the First
Baptist and First United
Methodist churches, and
they’re working to get
other churches on board
for the service as well.
“We’ll send out invitations.
We’re trying to get as many
other pastors as we can,"
said Nelson. “There will
be readings, liturgy, prayer
times, a brief exposition of
the Word and we may have
some music." The church
is located at 89 Lakeview
Drive.
Homer United
Methodist Church
will hold the following
events: Sunday, Feb. 8,
at 11 a.m. the church will
commission the Board of
Stewards. Bud Reiselt is
the board chairperson.
The church pastor, the
Rev. Jim McLendon, will
speak about “He Stands
Alone" (St. Mark 1:29 -
39). The board will hold its
first meeting of the year
Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m.
Also on Feb. 8, at 11 a.m.,
“Boy Scout Sunday" will
be observed. Tom Nix is
scoutmaster of troop 106,
which the church spon
sors. At 3 p.m. the troop
will hold an eagle award
ceremony for one of its
members. Tuesday, Feb.
24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the
men’s club will hold their
annual pancake supper in
the fellowship hall. Meal
tickets will be $5 each
and can be purchased
at the supper or earlier.
Proceeds will benefit club
projects. Tiny Collins is
president. The church is

will go on a winter retreat
Friday through Sunday,
February 27 - March 1,
for Bible study and fel
lowship in Pigeon Forge,
Tenn. There will be an
outing on Saturday to
Ober Gatlinburg to ski or
to snow tube. The group
will also be a part of a
community service proj
ect sponsored by World
Vision called “Hoops of
Hope." The money raised
will benefit orphaned
children in Africa. It’ll be
a great project, leaders
state. For more informa
tion, google “Hoops of
Hope." The group will also
sell Krispy Kreme certifi
cates for $5 per dozen.
There is no expiration
date on the certificate.
Profits will help defray the
costs of the winter retreat.
