at Athens
Regional
Medical
Center in
Commerce.
Born
in Clarke
County, he
was the son of Frances Crane
Massey and the late John
Wilton Massey Sr. He worked
with Olen Construction
Company as a construction
supervisor. Mr. Massey was
preceded in death by a brother,
Bobby Gene Massey.
Survivors in addition
to his mother, include his
wife Shirley Jarrett Massey,
Commerce; daughter and
son-in-law, Jami and Nathan
Jensrud, Ft. Collins, Colo.; son
and daughter-in-law, Josh and
Christie Massey, Commerce;

Thursday, February 5, at 2
p.m., in the chapel of Ivie
Funeral Home with the Revs.

from 6 to 9 p.m. Pallbearers

George Matzner
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -
George A. Matzner III, for
merly of Pocomoke City, died
Wednesday, January 28, 2009,
at Palm Meadows Village on
Hilton Head Island.
Born in High Point, N.C.,
on June 4, 1928, he was the
son of the late
Cleo Ridge
and George
A. Matzner Jr.
In 1999 he moved to Winder,
where he lived for seven years
before moving to Hilton Head
in 2006. He was United States
Navy veteran and worked as
a civilian for the Navy from
1956-1959, as a personnel
specialist. In 1959, he joined
NASA as a personnel offi
cer at Wallops Flight Center
in Wallops Island, where he
worked for 32 years until
his retirement in 1991. Mr.
Matzner was preceded in death
by his wife of 44 years, Arlene
Bennett Metzner.
Survivors include daugh
ter and son-in-law, Melissa
and Thomas Buchanan,
Bluffton, S.C.; foster sister,
Sue Todd, Knightdale, N.C.,
and her daughter, Lisa May of
Middlesex, N.C.; sister-in-law,

William “Duck" McDougald,
84, died Saturday, January 31,
2009, at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center Lanier Park
Campus, following an extend
ed illness.
Born in Jackson County,
he was the son of the late
Floyd Jackson and Eddie
Hogan McDougald. He was a
farmer and textile worker. Mr.
McDougald was preceded in
death by sisters, Ruth Sosebee,
Runell Anderson; and broth
ers, Paul McDougald and
Buddy McDougald.

Clara Baldwin Smith. She was

Church and was a hairstylist
for many years. She was an
avid gardener, loved ones stat
ed. Mrs. Pruitt was preceded
in death by her husband, Paul
W. Pruitt; five brothers; and
one sister.

years. She was preceded in
