Enjoying The Hot Dawgs
Ethan Pearson earned 87 Accelerated Reader
points for the fourth six-week grading period at
Commerce Elementary School. He was rewarded
with a UGA T-shirt and had his picture taken with
the UGA cheerleaders for having the second high
est AR point total for the grading period.
Something To Cheer About
Vee Harrison had 93 Accelerated Reader points
for the fourth six-week grading period at Commerce
Elementary School. She was rewarded with a UGA
T-shirt and had her picture taken with the UGA
cheerleaders for having the highest AR point total.
Applications For Pre-K
Being Taken Through April 15
The Georgia Pre-K pro
grams in Jackson County
Schools, Commerce City
Schools and Jefferson City
Schools will take applica
tions for the next school
year through April 17 until
3 p.m. Applications are
available at all elementary
schools.
Each school is limited to
a number of children in the
program. There will be a
drawing to determine which
students will be enrolled.
All parents will be notified
by mail.
Applicants for the Georgia
Pre-K program must be 4 on
or before Sept. 1, 2009, live
in the attendance area of
the school they are applying
for and have a certified birth
certificate.

Canup Joins Honor Society
Commerce High School graduate Kaylin Canup was
recently inducted into the Lambda Alpha chapter of
Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for two-year col
leges.
She is a student at Young Harris College and is the
daughter of Terry and Pam Canup.
Fills Honored At Berry College
A local student has been named to the fall semester
dean’s list at Berry College, Rome.
Katelyn Elizabeth Ellis, a sophomore from Nicholson,
was included on the list. She is the daughter of Robert
and Patricia Ellis and is an animal science major.
The dean’s list honors students who posted an aca
demic average of 3.5 or better.
Visit Peachtree Village
During February Commerce Middle School FCCLA
students volunteered at Peachtree Village senior
living community. On Feb. 9, they made cookies
and Valentine’s Day Cards in celebration of FCCLA
week and the next day hosted a Valentine’s Day
party. FCCLA members Lindsey Carlyle and Kelsey
Crumley, along with advisor Stephanie Trayler,
show off some of the treats.
A Toast Tor Teddy
The first grade students in Mandy McEntyre’s
class at Commerce Primary recently completed a
unit on Theodore Roosevelt. To celebrate the end
of the unit, the students had a tea with their teddy
bears (named for Roosevelt).
