people of Georgia.”
The Committee on Assign

and committee assignments. The
committee was first created in
2005 in an attempt to make a
more open selection process.

2009 fishing regulations available
The new 2009 Georgia Sport
Fishing Regulations are now
available. The Georgia Depart
ment of Natural Resources,
Wildlife Resources Division
(WRD) recently distributed
printed versions of the regula
tions to all Division offices and
facilities, a number of state parks
and fishing license retailers
statewide. An online version of
the new regulations soon will be
available at
www.gofishgeorgia.com.
WRD advises new and expe
rienced anglers alike to familiar
ize themselves with the Georgia
Sport Fishing Regulations before
casting a line.
“Georgia offers so many dif
ferent fishing opportunities from
the coast to the mountains and
this booklet is designed to help
anglers find great places to fish
and to educate them on Georgia’s
fishing regulations,” explains
WRD Chief of Fisheries Man
agement John Biagi. "It contains
information that should answer
all basic questions for anglers.”
The guide provides helpful
information, including color fish
identification charts for both
freshwater and saltwater fish, li
cense purchasing information,
contact information for WRD
fisheries management offices
and WRD law enforcement of
fices, trout stream listings, pub
lic fishing area (PFA) informa
tion, state record fish listings and
complete fishing regulations for
Georgia.
“We are pleased to offer the
fishing regulations to the public
at an earlier time of year,” says
Biagi. "We hope that this new
release date will better assist an
glers making fishing plans for
the year and with its improved
format we hope that anglers find
the new regulations easier than
ever to use.”
The Board of Natural Re
sources sets Georgia’s fishing
regulations based on recommen-
dations made by the
Department’s fisheries biologists
and field personnel while the
Georgia General Assembly sets
the laws related to fishing.
The 2009 regulation changes
anglers should be aware of are
as follows.
Licensing Changes: Georgia
anglers and hunters who have
lost their Georgia recreational
hunting/fishing license can re
print them at no cost at
www.gofishgeorgia.com. Georgia
anglers, boaters and hunters also
can now take advantage of new
and improved license and boat
registration services.
Saltwater Regulations
Changes: At the time of print
ing, legislative and/or regula
tions changes were pending that
may impact some species and
licensing issues. Contact the
Coastal Resources Division at
(912) 264-7218 for the most up-
to-date length and possession
limit information. Changes also
will be posted online at http://
crd.dnr.state.ga.us.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION
MICROBIOLOGICAL VIOLATION
TOTAL COLIFORM MCL VIOLATION
Water System Name: Millen
County: JENKINS
Date of Release: January 16, 2009
Contact Person: R.M. Small
Phone:478-982-6104
Mailing Address: P.O. Box 929
City: Millen
State: Georgia
Zip: 30442
Violation: Laboratory analyses indicate
the presence of Coliform bacteria in
drinking water samples collected from
the MILLEN Water System
According to R.M. Small, Utility Director
Coliform bacteria were present in two
(2) or more water samples tested during
the compliance period 12/1/2008 to 12/
31/2008. The State EPD and Federal
Drinking Water standards allow no more
than 5% of the samples to be Coliform
positive, if 40 or more samples are sub
mitted each month. If fewer than 40
samples are submitted each month, no
more than one sample may be Coliform
positive.
Required Language from Federal Reg
ulation: The United States Environmen
tal Protection Agency sets drinking wa
ter standards and has determined that
the presence of Coliform bacteria is a
possible health concern. Coliform bac
teria are common in the environment
and are generally not harmful. The pres
ence of Coliform bacteria in drinking wa
ter is generally the result of a problem
with water treatment or the pipes which
distribute water. They indicate the water
may be contaminated with organisms
that can cause disease. Disease symp
toms may include diarrhea, cramps,
nausea, possible jaundice and any as
sociated headaches and fatigue. These
symptoms are not just associated with
disease causing organisms in drinking
water, but may also be caused by a
number of factors other than your drink
ing water. The EPA has set an enforce
able drinking water standard for Colif
orm bacteria to reduce the risk of these
adverse health effects. Under this stan
dard, no more than 5.0 percent of the
samples collected during the month can
contain Coliform bacteria, except that
systems collecting fewer than 40 sam
ples per month that have one Coliform
positive sample per month are not vio
lating the standard. Drinking water
which meets this standard is usually not
associated with a health risk from dis
ease causing bacteria and should be
considered safe. Residents need not
boil their water or seek alternative water
supplies. Flowever, people with severely
compromised immune systems, infants
and some elderly may be at increased
risk, and should seek medical advice
from their health care providers.
Corrective Action: According to R.M.
Small, Utility Director, the source of the
contamination has been located and
corrective action taken. Further testing
is scheduled. Any questions should be
directed to the contact person listed
above.
