Senators also adopted HB
482, which would eliminate
the state’s income tax on busi
nesses. Having already passed
the House, HB 482 now goes
to the governor for his signa
ture.
Other House-sponsored
measures approved by the Sen
ate last week include: HB 116,
which would extend for two
years a sales tax exemption on
the purchase of aviation parts
used to repair out-of-state
planes. The bill is designed to
save jobs for aviation repair
companies, including Stan
dard-Aero in Augusta ; HB
160, which would put an addi
tional $200 fine against “super
speeders,” motorists who are
convicted of driving more than
85 mph on a four-lane highway
or more than 75 on a two-lane
road. According to the bill’s
sponsor, revenues raised by the
extra fees would go toward
trauma care funding, but rev
enues cannot be designated
without changing the Consti
tution. Because of that lack of
a guarantee the funds would be
used for trauma care, as well
as the fact it would not produce
enough revenue to adequately
fund it, I opposed the legisla
tion; and HB 261, which
would stimulate the housing
industry by giving home buy
ers a one-time income tax
credit of up to $3,600.

The Promise Of Easter
It is no coincidence that the celebration of Easter takes place each year in early
spring, commemorating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For
Easter is a celebration of rebirth, and what better time to celebrate this than when
the earth is springing back into life. The new life of spring reminds us that this
world is eternally productive and creative. The apparent lifelessness of winter is
only an illusion. Sleeping just beneath the surface, is life and more life, awaiting
God’s gentle touch to reawaken it. In the same way, Easter reminds us that the
death of our bodies is an illusion. Beneath it is life and more life. The Bible tells us
that God so loved the world the He gave us His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. We will one day shed our
bodies, as the trees shed their leaves and snakes shed their skins, and we will be
reborn into life everlasting.
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish neither shall anyone
snatch them out of My hand. New K.J.V. John 10:28
