Mr. J. W. Sumpter and Mr.
J. I£. Stephens have swapped
places. The former moves to
the lurnbule place and the lat
ter to the former's place. Mr.
Stephens, it is said, will still
carry oil business in the store
room, recently occupied by the
Journal office. This is one of
the best stands in town. It is
just opposite the court house.
Duriug a short stay in Lula
last Thursday night, we found
the citizens of that place very
| anxious to have a mail route
established from here there.
They say it is the only means
of bringing Homer into notice
lor a railroad. They are right
about this. If Homer eve/
does enjoy a railroad she will
be one of the greatest business
points in northeast Georgia.
There is a powerful rich back
ing around her.
It was the pleasure of the
publisher to spend part of last
week in Atlanta, on business.
This growing city is booming.
There is progress in Atlanta.
Businessmen of the town tell
us their industries of all bran
ches are increasing CO percent,
every year. Atlanta bids fair
at some future day, to have no
arrivals in the south. Her cli
mate is inviting, to say noth
ing of her industries and capit
al, besides being the opening
to all railroads in the 6oulh.
Quite a novel case took
place in Jackson county, near
Maysville, last week. A man
by the name of Martin, from
Hall county, attempted to run
away with the wife of a man
named Pruitt. Legal proceed
ings were taken out, the guilty
parties were brought back to
Aiaysville. Martin was put
under a >VJbO bond. The wo
man returned home with her
husband. Finally the author
ities agreed to let Martin go if
he would pay costs and leave
the state. This he did and
skipped.
i he baby played the part in
getting Pruitt to receive his
wife back, and no doubt, kept
Marlin from going to the chain
gang for several years.

Editor Journal —Please al
low space in your paper fora
few notes from this place.
Nothing of any importance
has occurred to cause me to
write. But I thought notes
from here would be read by,
at least, some of the young
men who read your paper, for
Aiaysville can boast of as pret
ty girls as any town in the
state.
Christmas has been very qui
et, but greatly enjoyed by the
young people, who have been
having sociables and suppers.
Maysville is not on a Bir
mingham boom, but is enjoy
ing a very substantial growth
by the moving in of good men
of different professions.
Mr. W. C. J. Garrison of Ho
mer, is moving his stock of
goods to this place and will oc
cupy the old grange building,
where he will add to his stock
and do a large merchantile bus
iness.
Dr. T. G. Underwood will
move to this place soon, where
he will practice his profession
and in connection run one of
the neatest drug stores to be
found in this part of the state.
Our school will open the Ist.
Monday in January, and the
prospects are bright for a splen
did school with full attendance.
Mr. J. L. Mathews has return
