Hydrophobia.
At nil times and in ail seasons we
should be on cur guard, and adopt
sufficient measures to protect our
selves from the poison of hydro
phobia. But, in consideration of
the fact, that several persons in
our community have already been
bitten by a rabbid dog, and the fur
ther fact, that other dogs have
been bitten, it is imperatively nec
essary that such dogs be confined
until it is certainly known, that the
disease spreads no further.
There is more danger cf being
bitten by dogs just commencing to
davelop the disease, than those fu
riously rabbid. The disease begins
in the dog by a sullen, morose, and
restless, or fidgety condition of the
animal. He shows, at first, no dis
position to bite unless ho is disturb
ed, and will answer the calls of his
master. He curls up, with his face
between his forepaws, as if to avoid
the light. His oountenanca be
comes ugly end suspicious. He
goes trom one to another of the
family, as it seeking relief. He
soon becomes restless and snaps in
the air, and at any passing object,
and leaves home. Soon spasms or
fits come on, the tangue becomes
swollen and hangs out of the
