court house; to provide for the election
of mayor and oouncilmen; to create
power in the mayor and council to pass
ordinances and enforce the same, rela
tive to the punishment of offenders and
for other purposes.”

Mr. J. E. Each and wife of S Iver
Shoals, expects to visit Col. H. H Da
vidson ot Clay county, N. C., next
week. Col. Davidson is Mr. Ritck’e
tatber-iu-law. He is quite sick and
was not expected to live when last
heard from.
Mr. J. E. Stephens brought to
this olliee last Friday, the finest
cotton bloom of the season. Mr.
Stephens says he has had blooms
since the 25ih inst. This speaks
well for a young farmer.

of lightning exploded; the shock
