THE JUDGES.
The three Judges named below shall decide unde
the conditions of the contest who are the winners of the
prizes offered, and they will render their decision in

ing upon all parties to the contest; and the prize money
will be paid out on the order of these Judges to the win
ners as so determined by them. These Judges will
certify the official count to be made by Mr. Colburn.

$30,000 Supposed to Have Been Hid
den In Mississippi Canebrake.
Jackson. Miss., Aug. if,.—For the
past ten days a parly of unknown men
have been conducting a mysterious
search in a canebrake west of Jack-
son for the supposed hurled tieasure
of David Cohea, a wealthy and eccen-
trie citizen who died many yours ago.
Several large holes have been dug
In the ground at various places In the
canebrake generally under large trees,
hut it Is believed that the searchers
have not yet been successful in their
guest. The old man Is supposed to
have burled about $30,000 In gold Just
before the opening of the civil war.

Rapist Caught 'but Escapee,
Lodi, Wls., Aug. IS.—A negro as
saulted Anna Zimmerman, daughter of
a farmer living a mile east of fh« vil
lage of Dane last night and after leav-
fng her In a senseless condition re
turned after several hours to the ueene
of his crime and confessed. A posse
was formed and tho negro caught, but
after a desperate struggle he managed
to escape and Is now at large. Lynch
ing is threatened If he is captured.
The girl's condition Is serious.
