Died. —On the 10th mat.. Mrs.
Ida M. Chase, wife of Mr. Wni.C. Chase
of this city. She had suffered for some
week' with Pneumonia and was only
relieved through death. The funer
al took place from the Episcopal Church,
of which she was a member, on Tues
day evening. She leaves two little
Children and a number of relatives.—
Our sympathy is extended to the be
reaved.

inst. Mr. Monroe Barnes, to Miss
Cattie Clay.
Miss Sallie Welch returned to

Mr. A. H. Talley, is not only a
clever gentleman but is also a
champion farmer. Last year with
one mule and a very small a
mount of commercial fertilizers,
he made 11 pales of cot ton, 200
bushels of corn : and besides this
a line lot of oats, potatoes etc.
And as Ben Hill said about
Felton, “give us more Felton’s in
congress.” We will use his lan
guage and say“give us more Tal
ley’s'’ in Oregon district, and
there will be more of the home
made fertilizers used and less
need of a seduction in the price
ofGuano’s.

Edwards last Wednesday, and or
ganized a farmers club of sixteen
members. A. 0. Edwards was e
lected president and W. J. Man
ning secretary. After organiza
tion the guano question was ta
ken up and discussed by all pre
sent, when all agreed that
they could not buy guano at the
present prices and sell their cot
ton from six to eight cents. The
following resolution was then a
dopted, that they would not buy
guano unless they could buy on .
the same conditions they bought
at last year. The same prices for
guano and the same cotton op
tion.

The American navy, with 2,020
officers to command 7,500 men,
and paying $3,822,000 annually
to the former and but $2,300,000
to the latter, is, as Mr. Blaine re
marked. a trifle top-heavy.
Secretary Sherman favors an
income tax to meet the require
ments of the pension bill. Such
a tax could be laid so as to bring
m ten millions a year from those
who would not feel the burden.
