AN ORDINANCE ,
To declare standing pools of water,
and low or wet places within the
limits of the city of Brunswick, a
nuisance, and to provide for the
abatement of same.
Section 1. Be it, and it' hereby ordained by
the Mayor and Council of the city of Brunswick,
in Council assembled, that from and after the
passage of this Ordinance, the allowing pools of
water to stand for any length of time, upon any
lot ofl&nd, within the limits of said city, is detri
mental to the public health and safety and is
hereby declared to be a nuisance'; and each and
every owner of any lot in said city upon which
pools of water collect, is hereby required, upon
a written request of tho Board of Health of said
city, to fill up such lot with additional earth, or
to aitoh and drain said lot, so that snch standing
water shall be removed therefrom, and all wet
or marshy soil shall become dry land.
Sec. S. Be it further, in like maner ordained,
that if any owner of such lot, upon receipt ox
such notice and request from the Board of
Health, as prescribed in the preceding section of
this Ordinance, shall fail or refuse to comply
therewith, it shall be the duty of the Marshal of
said city to cause said nuisance to be abated and
said lot to be filled up or drained, and after so
doing shall file with the Clerk and Treasurer of
said city a statement of the amount of the ex
penses incurred by 1dm in so doing, and there •
upon tho Clerk ana Treasurer aforesaid shall is
sue an execution against the lands and tene
ments, goods nnd chattels of thoowner or owners
of said lot, for tins amount so expended by tlio
said Marshal, which execution snail be levied
and collected by the Marshal, by levy nnd sale,
ns is done in cases of delinquent tax payers.
Bo it further, in like manner ordained, that
all ordinances or parts of ordinances, In conflict
with this Ordinance be and tlio same are hereby
_ assed in Council this 25th day of alanuary
