Nows For The Suffering
Public.
To the average traveler, the men
tlon of the name "Jesup” runs cold
chills all down bis spine, and cspec
ially the lady traveler who has to
change cars there—simply because
the two roads crossing there, will
not, can not or do not come together
and build a passenger depot at that
point. To add to the horrors of the
situation, three small hotels, consid
erably removed from the track, are
the only places to which one can go to
spend the hours waiting. The A1
tamaha house was bought sometime
since by the S. F. & W. with the un
derstanding that it would be used, so
soon as repaired, for the public, but
so far nothing has been done. Mr,
Whaley, the former owner of the ho
tel and a prominent gentleman of
that place, rccently appealed to My.
Fleming, of the S. F. & W„ and got
him to open up the former office of
the hotel for a waiting room for the
suffering public. So now the unfor
tuniuo man or woman who has to
stop over there to wait for other
trains, need not spend the time on the
railroad track praying for the mil
lennial dawn, or possibly that the
hearts of the railroad people of the
land might be made more tender, or
better still, that they might have the
grace to bear the affliction. .
Now if Capt. Whaley will just con
tinue his good work until a union
passenger and freight depot is put
up there, he will receive the everlast
ing thanks of every man, woman and
child who ever has to stop over at
that place.
Ice Delivery.
Messrs. Haywood, Gage «fc Co. ad
vertise in this issue to deliver ice
daily to ike citizens of this city at
the rate of 75c. per hundred pounds
at retail. They are desirous of using
only tickets and to that end request
that customers shall as far as prac
ticable secure tickets and use these
only. Mr. Freund, the agent hero of
Messrs. Haywood, Gage and Co;, re
quests us to say to the people that he
will leave no stone unturned to give
them a perfect ice service, and would
be glad If any omission of duty on
the part of his delivery ivagon be
promptly reported to him at the ice
house.
Wo feel assured that Mr. Freund
will give a faithful service, and real
ly take pleasure in doing so. Give
him a fair chance.
The Entertainment Last Night.
Quite a’good audience greeted the
Professor last'night at L’ariodfeHis
scenes from Scripture preHecy,
whilst only imaginary, were sun in
structive. The closing scene upon
his canvas, ‘‘The River of Life,” was
both beautiful and instructive. To
night he will exhibit twenty-four
scenes from the Old Bible, tho later
work of the same artist, which prom
ise to be even more interesting than
last night’s exhibition.

tho great office of Chief Justice.

Who Keeps
Wo don’t care to
•‘Oglethorpe” Advi
specially, for wo repri
town, or tryUo, but wo
stow a word of comment
ever it is deserved,
The force of tho query
home to us last SatU:
whilst speaking with
from Now York, a guest of the Ogle
thorpe. We were doingjfcomo little
“bragging,” to use a common word,
over our new hotel, when :' the gentle
man remarked to us that he never
asked any qucstionsWibout a hotel or
its surroundings; that ho only asked
one question, and that is: “Who
keeps it?” Said he:
“I heard about your bptol and all
your attiactions. I had ‘hoard such
things before; they wentin one ear
and out o! the other, blit when I ask
ed ‘who keeps it.’ a ad waltold thatit
was S.E. Crittenden,of the|Hygeia,and
of Cooperstown. I forthwith packed
my trunk, and asking no more ques
tions catuc us straight as 1 could
travel, for I knew that ijf-S. E. Grit
tcndcu was manager, I should find a
home, and I have found it. You have
an elegant hotel and kept in fine
style.” i
. Following up this thought we com
menced inquiring as to how the
stitution was paying, and find that
the management has paid] up all the
running expenses and turned over to
the treasurer $4,000 to dale, and the
hotel not yet three mirths open,
The most sanguine had n6 such ideas
—a few had thought it “might pay
expenses”jiftasiWy tho. ...season,-
but there was much doubt of that,
So this announcement will bring joy
to many.
The management did wisely in get
ting Mr. Crittenden even j, at a big
salary—that is a secondary consid
eration altogether. Some people lug
gle about a dollar or two in the'rate
paid an employe, forgetting that the
cheaper man would waste or lose
five times the amount of - dif
ference in the run of a month. All
honor say we to the Oglethorpe and
tho management. Long may they
all wave, and may their example be
followed by oibers, until we shall
have a dozen such institutions
and around the city.
We can’t close this article without
adding a lino more. To Mi. W. E.
Kay is duo very largely much of the
glory achieved by tho Oglethorpe.
’Twas his broad ideas that would not
allow the hovel to bo fained up and
furnished other than Jirst-cloie in e0-
ery particular, and we owe him a big
bundle of thanks.

Early i a April the Grand Lodgo of
the Knights of Pythias will meet in
Atlanta, and it is expected there will
be a very large attendance. The
uniformed comtnandcrics will camp
at Grant Park. There will be drill
ing contests ‘and various other
amusements. The session of tho
Grand Lodge will last two or three
days.
It has been decided that nothing
should bo omitted which would en
sure the success of the meeting or
the pleasure of the visitors.
Big Sale To-Morrow.
Don't forget the big auction sale
to-morrow by Leavy <fe Co., of Mr.
G. W. Haupt’s household and kitch
en furniture. Big bargains will be
picked up by those who attend. The
residence is in a few steps of the
street car lines so the ladies will
have no trouble in getting to and
from tho place. Read over the ad
vertisement again.
We are Considering.
Wo are almost dally appi
by business mon to know wh<
are going to enlarge our paper Ihd
secure press dispatches, etc. Many
have even proffered help. Go slow
friends, the Advertiser-Appeal nev
er goes backwards—when ‘ it plfcnts
its foot one step forward it kicks out
the platform behind it, for it never
needs it again. Wo woro asked bo-
foro the Journal started to tako this
stop—we declined beoause the tlmo
had not yet come; others mndo tho
attempt, and tho result is known.
We me considering, and just tho mo
mentum way is clear you 'will hear
from us, and wo will como to stay.
Parties who oro craving what wo too
feel wo ought to have, are requested
to wait until we blow tho horn, and
then you may-rest assured wo aro
with you to stay, not only with a live
homo paper, but with “press dis-
patenes” ns well. Brunswick is go
ing abend with giant strides, but she
has not yet readied the level of press
dispatches. The Advertiser-Appeal
will know just tho moment sho hits
tho line.
The First |Broom.
