Two little darkies were playing
with the nozzle of a sprinkler this
morning, when one fellow finding the
other about to get the advantage
dashed off. looking back at his an
tagonist, he suddenly brought up
against Dr. Burford’s buggy that was
passing, and split his head open.
Alderman Bostwick stood upon the
street yesterday and thus accosted
the first thirty men that passed:
“Are yon in favor of standard time
or suntime?” Twenty-nine answer
ed “sun time.” The thirtieth man
was not particular, either would suit
him.
A good one is told on Mayor Dunn.
When tho city adopted standard
time, His Honor went home, and with
all\hc dignity of one wearing the
honors of the Mayoralty, and at the
same timo being lord of his own
household, walked up to tho old timo
piece that ticks npon the mantel
piece, and started to turn back the
hands 36 minutes. A voice from be
hind‘arrested him, and an uplifted
index finger emphasized this remark
from the Mistress of the house: “Run
the city by any time you please, but
just let ray clock alone. I move with
the sun.”
Some folks call Alderman Cook
inconsistent. He blows his whistle
by sun time, and thus regulates the
town, but votes for standard time.”

a union meeting of tho different

J. L. Gilmore, of Savannah, well

the meeting. The new society will
be under the direction of the Amer

or rather will receive material help
from that source. The time has ar
rived when something should be done
for this class of people who come
among us in great numbers nowa
days. Think of it—at least 400 ves
sels will visit this port during 1888—
taking a low average of twelve men
on each vessel, and we .figure up at
least 5,000 people to whom the gos
pel could, and should be preached.
Turn out then to-morrow night cn

what there is in her. Come out to

he is a very interesting speaker in
