Chicago, lll*.—Reports of liberal Eu
ropean buying at Kansas City helped
bring an advance here today In wheat.
After opening unchanged to 3-4 higher
prices made a general all round upturn.
Wet weather put strength Into corn.
The opening, 1-8 to 3-8 higher, wag fol
lowed by a moderate additional gain.
Oats hardened with other cereals.
Lower prices for hogs carried provis
ions downgrade.
Later some reaction took place In
wheat on o. large Increase in the visible
supply. The close was steady at 3-4 c
net advance.
Pit traders caused a t.tbaek in corn
and It closed steady, 1-8 to l-4c above

nonced today! that it would permit deal
ings in listed garanteed stocks at price
concessions. TheVe are about thirty or
forty securities of this class, most of
them railway issues.
KILLED IN HIS CELLAR.
London 1,:25 p. m. The corres
pendent at Amsterdam of Central
News quotes the newspaper Het Volk
to the effect that the Argentine consul
at Antwerp, M. Lemalre, was killed
during the bombardment by a shrap
nel! shell. The missile struck the roof
of the consulate*and penetrated to the
cellar, where the consul was sleep
ing.
Paris 11:35 a m — A dispatch to the
Havas Agency from Troyes says an
official repart relates that Mezieres,
Charleroi and Rocroi suffered little
during the German occupation. Sedan
and Vouzierees were unharmed. Hay
bes and Fumay were devastated. Beth
el was burned. Of 1,200 buidings 900,
including the city hall, the schools and
the markets were destroyed.

Marquis di Ban Guiilano, the Italian
foreign minister, whose serious ill
ness has been the cause of anxiety, was
improved today.

vi I le, L. I.) —The American Red Cross
unit which is to serve among German
and Austrian wounded, has arrived
here. Two groups will go to Vienna
and two other groups to Breslau from
where they will proceed to the field
hospitals.
