NEW YORK COTTON
New York.—Cotton was unsettled early
today owing to the circulation of Decem
ber notices, estimated at about 3,000
bales, and renewed liquidation. Yes
terday's government estimate evidently
wisplred comparatively little selling in
T.iverpool as the cables were better than
due, but after opening steady at a de
' cline of one point to an advance of two
. points, the local market eased off. De-
I cember was relatively easy and there
seemd to be Southern selling as well as
scattering liquidation and after some
early investment buying of October had
been supplied, there did not seem to bo
a great deal of support around the ring.
Trading became somewhat less ac
tive around midday, but the market con
tinued easv with prices some six to 18
points net lower during the early after
noon.
Cotton closed steady.

Advertising Manager of The Augusta Herald,
Augusta, Ga., Dec. 9, 1914.
Dear Sir:
On Sunday afternoon I lost a valuable necklace on
Broad street, and advertised my loss in the Monday is
sue of your paper; and on Tuesday the property was;re
turned to me through that ad; and reward offered, re
fused. I wish to acknowledge aijd give credit to your
paper for success of its service in the Want column.
It certainly proves the Herald is well and widely
read. And also speaks well for our city that a piece
of jewelry lost on Broad street in the midst of a large
crowd was restored to its owner in so short a time.
Very sincerely,
“A SUBSCRIBER.”

NEW ORLEANS COTTON
New Orleans—Cotton futures advanced
one to four points in the early trading
today chiefly as the result of a better
Liverpool market than due. Shorts were
inclined to cover and the demand from
them was met by only small selling
orders.
Reports of easier spot markets in the
interior increased selling and at noon
the market stood at a net lass of seven
points.
Cotton closed quiet at a net decline of
six to ten points.
Spot cotton easy. Sales on the spot

CHICAGO GRAIN MARKET
Chicago.—Wheat developed strength
today on lowe temperatures west and
southwest with implied probability of
damage. After opening % off to % up.
the market scored a material advance all
around.
Prospects of enlarged demand from
feeders helped corn. Opened from a
shade to %@%c higher, follower by a
slight reaction, then a moderate general
upturn.
Oat traders took to the buying side
owing to firmnes sos other grain.
Lower hog prices acted as a weight on
provisions.
Later wheat had a setback on profit
taking by longs and considerable short
selling. Closed easy at an advance of
a shade to % net.
Realizing by holders led afterward to
a corn reaction. Closed steady same
as last night to a shade advance.

SENSATIONAL UPTURN
IN PRICE CHICAGO EGGS
Chicago.—Prices of resh eggs advanced
four cents a dozen In the Chicago mar
get, yesterday, one of the most sensa
tional upturns in this market in recent
years.
Scarcity of newly laid eggs was given
as one of the causes for the advance
and another was that eastern buyers
made unusually heavy purchases. Fresh
gathered firsts were quoted at 33 to 34
cents wholesale. Storage eggs, however
did not follow the advance. Dealers ex
pect fresh eggs to sel for forty-two
cents retail and possibly higher next
week.
