New York. —Cotton Bhowed renewed
firmness early today. Liverpool made a
very steady showing and after opening
at an advance of one to four points the
local market sold five to six points net
higher, with active months working a
or two above yesterday's high level.
After showing a net loss of about
seven to eight points, the market stead
ied slightly on covering but remained
more or leas unsettled during the middle
of the afternoon undefr continued real
izing.

New Orleans.—On the opening call the

points because of Liverpool's failure to
make good response to the advance on
this side yesterday. After the call, how

ed strong with sales of 6,000 bales. The
local market opened all the way from
unchanged to an advance of five points
vance, however there wag quite a little
short covering by the ring crowd which
advanced prices a point or two over the
high mark of yesterday. On this ad
vance, however, their was quite a little
profit-taking and the market eased off,
the May option selling under eight cents.
We beiieve the market a purchase
around eight and a quarter for October.

New York.—Little of yesterday’s
strength was shown in the euiy part of
i today’s stock market, declines being the
rule. Reading. Union Pacific, Amalga
mated and several other active issue*
fell back a point or more with fractional
recessions in other pfcrts of the list. Bal
timore and Ohio and Mexican Petroleum,
the latter with a one point gain, were
the only notable exceptions to the droop
ing tendency which was accompanied by
a small output of stocks. United States
Steel was relatively firmer than other
leaders. A moderate rally followed.
Closed irregular. Liquidation of Rock
Island collateral 4s and Debenture ss,
which fell from two to almost fivo
points, was the sole feature of the fi
nal hour.
