A special from Rutherford, N. C„ says: Jim Lowery, the negro desper ado who murdered Chief of Polico Jones at Shelby two months ago, not satisfied with the bloody record chalk¬ ed up against him, suddenly appeared in that town Tuesday morning, and without a word of warning opened fire on a half dozen prominent citizens. but, strange to say, the negro s recog nized markmanship appeared to have deserted him, and the shooting was without effect. As quickly as he came Lowery left, with a large crowd in pursuit. Fifteen negroes have been arrested on suspicion of being Lowery in many parts of the country, one being as far away as Rochester, N. Y. One negro at Charleston, S. C., and another at Murphy, N. C., had been taken for Lowery and killed. A reward of $600 is offered for his arrest. Lowery has been concealed by ne groes in Shelby since the murder of Chief Jozies By introducing potato bugs into Eng j land we will also be able to sell tht British farmers a potato bug extermina tor after awhile.
