CLEMENTS NOMINATED BY
ACCLAMATION.
The convention which nn t at
Codartown, September tho 6th, was
attended by delegates from ah the
counties in the district, except
vVhitfied In the absense of Coi.
Foubho, chairman of the executive
committee, Mr. C. G Janos, of
Folk, called the convention 10.. or
at 12 m.. and after explaining the
absence oi Mr, l ouche, J. A. Me-
Karny, o: Murray, was nominated
by if. T. Brock tor permanent
ehaiiman.
Col. W. C, Bunn nominated B.
T, Brock for temporary secretary
of the convention. The tempo
rary secretary and chairman were
made permanent, and Mr. Maitin,
of Folk, was selected assistant sec
retary.
Upon the roll of counties being
called the chairman oi each Dele
gation presented a list of the dele
gates from their respective coun
ties. Cobb county delegates come
instructed for Col, Philipps, but
entered the Clements caucus, and
declared their willingness vote
, for him. but it was a surpaise to
many, when Col. McKinney, of the
Cobb *l’ legation put in nomination
the name of Mr. Clements, &ayr g
it hud been Charged that they were
:>gainst him, yet he* (McKinney)
was a Clements man, an a was glad
-to -present his man to the conven
tion, This brought forth an out
burst of applause, ior it was now
evident that their would be no op
position, and the motion to nomi
nate Clements by acclamation, was
made, and it carried with a storm.
The convention was solid, to a man,
and'alt seemed glad that Clements
is to succeed himself in Congress.
A'Committee was'appointed to
inform Mr Clements ol his renou.-
i tuition, and in addition fi> a formal
notification some enthusiastic sup
porters contributed, and a telegram
was sent lum at Washington in
forming .bimiol hie nomination.
A committee on resolutions re
. /
tired, and adopted resolutions, en
dorsing thoTecord of Clements, al
so Cleveland’s administration,
W,hon the question of an-.for,ce
ment of Senator Colquitde. record
during-his present term of office
cunie before the c< mmittee, serious
objections arose, and jt # was urged
thacthe convention wasuig! author
ized to adopt any such resolutions,
but after a very hot debate, the
committee decided to otter she res
olution. The adoption of the res
olution took up considerable time
and result was 22 for and 9 against.
The aoavontion was in session j
not more than an hour and a half,!
anti ended in perfect harmony, all;
going away woil-catisfied with the
worke d performed, and feeling that
the nomination of JudsohC. Clem-!
emu, v/ouid'aid additional honors
to the old 7th Congressional dis
trict, and his record in the future'
would bo honor to the great Flats
which has given him birth.
KOilß.
Whitfield should have heed rep
resented in the convention.
Fite of Bartow, made a good talk
in favor of the Colquitt resolution.
Col. Seay, of P loyd, .was not. nt
all in favor ot the Colquitt resolu
tion, and he vary ably opposed its
►adoption.
