Dr. J. M. Neill brought into our
office last Wednesday a pistol ball
that he had just extracted from
the leg of Lundy Johnson, a negro
who is lodged in our jail for steal

negro claims to have been shot by
gome one of the Sheriff’s possee
when they attempted to arrest
him near the depot, at this place,
the evening after he did the steal
ing. The ba'l bad remained in
his leg since the shooting and an

Good Speaking—Excellent Music—A Big
Dinner, Ete.
Barly Tuesday morning people began
pouring in from every direction from the |
country and neighboring vowns. Felton, l
Draketown and in fact almost all of our
sister towns were well representgd. ’,l‘hel
north bound train brought quite a num
ber of people from Carrollton, Kramer}
and other points. Later on came the
'l‘allapmgsa. delegation, consisting of quite
a number of her best ¢itizens, some of her
fair young . ladies and the Tallapoosa
band, which furnished music for the oc
casion. They covered themselves in glo- |
ry aud did honor to their town by the
excellent musig they furnished.
The Masons assembled at the hall and
when the people had gathered, headed
by the band, they marched from the hall
avound the public square and down to
the platform inthe grove west of thez
1 Loveless Hotel. {
Qol, 8. L. Craven had been selected by
the committee ag Master of ceremonies,
also as speaker to deliver the welcome
address. Col, Oraven delivered a short
but interesting address of welcome, i
which made the people feel t)lv||ls<el\'u'~'{
at home, !
After the address of welcome we ]m(l!
speeches by jthe following distinguished
gentlemen:
Col. J. W, Biggers, of Draketown; W.
W. Beachamp, Kranier, and W. W. Rea
gan, of Kramer,
As it was then about.l2 o’ciock an in
tremission of one hour wasannouneced for
dinner. A dinner that wonld be an hon
or to any town or community was then
spread and the people were. invited toin- i
dulge freely. All ate and were fil]ed,i
at least if they did not it was their faunlt.
After dinner Dr. W. G. England, of
Cedartown, was introdueed by Col, J. M. ‘
Mcßride, of Tallapoosa, and delivered
quite an interesting address, after which
the hand played the Dozology: “God be
with you ’till we'meet again,’! and the
meeting adjourned.
The band then headed the Masonic
procession and they marched back to the
hall. |
Some of the speakens that were e\:pwc-}
ted did not get here, but think we are
safein saying that the people were well|
en.ertainew. by the speakers who wvro“
| here.
As we announced last weegk, after the
Masons had adjourned, the young peo
ple assembled at the platform which had
been built in the grove north of the pub
lic square, and enjoyed themselves the
remainder of the day ian dancng,
ete.
Bverything moved off lovely; the best
of order was mantained throughout the
day, and asJ. W. B. puts it, it was
truly a “‘Red Letter day’’ for Buchanan,
long to be remembered by the people,
and especially the Masons, of Haralson
and adjoining connties.
: TR $
The yonngsters of Buchanan not being
willing yet to give up the pleasures of
the day, met after supper av the residence
of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Burden, and pass
ed a few more pleasant hours by indulg
ing in music and dancing and socigl con
versations.
