FARMERS OF OHIO
Against the Third Party by a
Majority of One.
A Columbus, Ohio, dispatch says: Tne
light in the farmers’ question union Wednesday
over the third party was one of
the prettiest and hottest in the history of
Ohio politics. The union has been one
of the most conservative bodies in the
state, and last year refused to entertain
for pendently a moment of a the proposition existing* to uct inde¬

disadvantage, party men because were working at a
great most of the
delegates were elected before the exist¬
ing excitement over the Cincinnati con
ference. The union is composed of rep¬
resentatives of all the farmers’ organiza¬
tions in the state, including members of
the farmers’ institutes, who really have
no right that in the convention. It was this
element defeated the third party ac¬
tion. The committee on resolutions re¬
ported amendments during the day. There were sev
oral to the original report,
but the platform as adopted is as follow ce :
Preamble—We, the delegates repr » -
senting the various farmers’ organizations
of Ohio, in convention assembled, in the
interest of good government and the
welfare and prosperity of the entire state
and the nation, and cluiming an equal
representation in the law-making bodies,
both state and national, for farmers, de¬
clare in favor of tho following principles,
and will work and vote for their adop¬
tion into the law:
forms 1. Equal and fair distribution of all
of wealth to be listed at actual
value, less actual indebtedness.
2. A system of schoolbooks at actual
cost.
3. Suppression of all traffic in intoxi¬
cating liquors as a beverage.
4. Suppression of free railroad passes
and other gifts to legislators, judges of
courts, county auditors and other public
officials.
5. We favor the increase of the cir¬
legal culating medium to $50 per capita of full
tender money, gold and silver, on
a parity of each other and paper.
6. For the carrying out of these princi¬
ples we declare for and recommend to the
farmers of Ohio to see to it that no man
is nominated or elected a senator or rep¬
resented from any agricultural county or
district who will not stand squately on
this platform.
The ipost important resolution of the
convention wa$:
Resolved, That there be an executive
committee of five be appointed by this
meeting, to confer with a similar com¬
mittee appointed by the Ohio delegation
at the Cincinnati conference, in regard to
calling a state convention to nominate
candidates to be voted for at the Novem¬
ber election, and that said committee
fix the basis of representation, fix
the time and place of holding the said
convention.
This resolution brought the third party
matter squarely before the union.
After live hours’ dicussion, the main
question was put ana the roll was called.
The vote resulted for the lesolution to
advocate the third party, G3; against the
third party, 64, giving a majority of one
vote for the anti-third party.
LUMBER DEALERS FIRM
And the Tie-Up of Business Still
Exists.
A New York dispatch says: The re¬
port that some of the lumber dealers
would, open their yards Thursday, and
that they had seceded from their original
headquarters agreement, was emphatically denied at the
of the Lumber Dealers’ As¬
sociation. It is shown by statistics that
the consumption of lumber in the build¬
ing trude was reduced the first week of
the strike about 80 per cent,, and the sec¬
ond week over 95 per cent, The esti
mated loss in wages by workmen thrown
out of employment during the first week
of the strike amounted to about $250,000
and during the second week to about
$450,000. Should the strike continue
until next week, it is said fully 20,000
men will be thrown out of work, by the
stoppage tie-up of building being operations. Alba¬ The

ANOTHER BANK SUFFERS
Through the Bardsley Examin¬
ation Proceedings.
A Philadelphia dispatch says: During
the exposure of the business methods of
the Keystone bank and of City Treasurer
Bardsley, the Third National bank was
given an unpleasant publicity through its
business connections with the institution
and with Bardsley, and in consequence
lobt within two weeks $1,000,000 of de¬
posits. On Thursday President Perry M.
Lewis and Vice President George Myers
sent in their resignations to the board of
directors, stating that they thought served the
best interests of the bank would be
by their so doing.
AN INCREASE IN DEBT
Is Shown by the Public State¬
ment for May.
The May debt statement, issued Mon¬
day from Washington shows an apparent
increase of $250,000 in debt since tho 1st
instant. This is due to the fact that dis¬
bursements during the month were un¬
usually large, leaving less money in the
treasury on May 29th by about the
amount stated, available for the payment
of the debt. Pension payments were
$8,500,000, leaving $17,500,000 of such
payments for the present quarter to be

An Exact Economist.
There is a farmer in Wrightown town¬
ship ho who will perhaps in time get rich, ns

house at stated wages per week. When
he they agreed to settle, nearly a ye r later,
had a bill against her of a little more
than $3 for loss of time for “gaping” at
the cars as they went to and fro. It
seems that after the construction train
got it passed to running she would go every time
to the door, look at it, throw
up her hands and apron and laugh, so
pleased at the sight. This loss of time
