.Some people do not live as though they
had to die. AVe may all fail to live as we
should, and if the best fail, wlmt will be¬
come of the worst? May the Lord cause
us all to think. The infidel may say
there is no God, but who is willing to lay
down and die with such belief? Just
think!
It’s hardly worth while to-call your at¬
tention, or to try to impress upon your
mind, dear reader, the duty involved up¬
on you in patronizing home or county in¬
dustries. Now should you need any work
in Air. II. H. French’s line of busi¬
ness (whose advertisement can be seen in
this paper), don’t go and send it away off
before giving him a trial. Read liis “ad.”

MR. P- R. ALMON DEAD
The angel of Death lias spread his wings

mother were stricken with grief at tlie j
death of their only child, and now the i
father, too, lies in the dark tomb beside | ,

left. May God soothe the broken lioart. j
Mr Almon was only in his twenty-eight |
year, and until near three weeks of his !
death was unusually healthv and stout,
I5uUhat ‘headed disease, typhoid fever, j
made him his victim, despite the skill of I
physicians and tender nursing of friends j
and relatives.
In the death of Mr. Almon Buchanan
loses a good citizen and business man.

to say in reply to as sorry a man as this

swore false no one thinks so except J. W.
and if his statement lmd any
about it, it would have been better,
It is true the race was very funny,
in the first place instead of it being a
hundred yards from the store, it was a
half mile. I caught the prisoner, all the
same, and he would have been much ea
sier caught had there not been so many
woods (Woods) in the way; and I want
to .say they did set the dogs after me, but
they did not know anything about
ning a man and did catch a hog as they
had been taught. I was neither drunk,
crazy nor mad until it was all over, and
then I was mad because I did not use a
few thirty-eights.

Mk. Eeitok.-—I thank you for being so
kind as to print my letters.
I think the marble players have stopped.
Now will they he so kind as to fix the
sidewalks and gullies to keep the ladies
from stuinbbling and the children from
falling down? AVe would like to see them
take a pride in fixing up the sidewalks;
then we would surely believe they thought
something of us. AVe know that we have
nice young men in Buchanan, and we
will think more of them when they fix
the sidewalks, and the marble playing is
entirely stopped—then we will give them
a letter of praise for nil they are worth.
Now, I do not lay all tlie fault to tlie
young men, for we sec they arc led by
older ones. The aged men have engaged
in marble playing and the young follow
in their footprints. The aged have let
the sidewalks go down and the young have
only followed in tlieir footsteps. Take
care, old age. Train your child in the
way it should go, and when it is old it
will not depart from it.
May the Lord bless the young men and
keep them from past examples, and may
He bless the aged that they may not set
such examples any longer.
A Lady.
