I wish to say to my friends that I will
pay everything that I owe back there. I
am not done with Haralson yet. I don’t
aim to beat anybody. I want to pay my
debts as long as I am able to work. I
don’t want any one to think that I left
the State to keep from paying my debts.
That is not it, and those I am owing will
find it to bo true.

Christmas is almost over, and oh, my!

It is the brick house close to the railroad.

getting plum fat, except myself. 1 am

The health at Mr. Johnson's hotel is

keeper, and a fine man. I am one of his

for yourself.
So I will not write any more just now.

1 WASHINGTON LETTER.
(From our Regular Correspondent.)
Speaker Cl'isp’scommittee assignments
are the principal topics of conversation
among those interested in political affairs.
There is no denying that there is much
dissatisfaction in the Speaker’s party, ev¬
en more than was anticipated. The only
people who are perfectly satistied arc
tlu.se who favor the free coinage of silver;
they have all, and more, than they expect¬
ed. Bland, of Missouri, the chairman of
the Coinage committee, has been for
quite a while the most ardent supporter
of free coinage on the democratic side of
the House, while the following members
of the committee are known to favor it:
Williams, of Illinois; Kilgore, of Texas;
Robertson, of Louisiana; Pierce, of Ten¬
nessee; Epes, of Virginia; McKeighan
(Independent Alliance) of Nebraska; Bar
tin, of Nevada, and Johnson of North Da¬
cota. Members of the committee oppos¬
ed to the free coinage are Tracy, of New
York; Williams, of Massachusettss; Tay¬
lor, of Illinois, and Stone, of Pennsylva¬
nia. With nine against four the free coin¬
age men confidently predict that a free
coinage hill will be reported to the House
early in the session.
Putting Springer, of Illinois, at the
bead of the Ways and Means committee,
is taken to indicate that no attempt will
bo made to formulate a new tariff bill,
and that the committee will devote its
attention mostly to separate measures
for the repeal of siugto sections of the
present tariff law.
Holman, of Indiana, being at the head
of the Appropriation committee makes it
certain that retrenchment will be the or¬
der of the day in that committee, and if
the old practice of having all the appro¬
priation bills emanate from that commit¬
tee was now in vogue, this might mean a
groat deal, hut when Mr. Carlisle was e
lected Speaker of the House over Mr,
Randall, who was made chairman of the
Committee on Appropriations, a number
of the regular approhriation bills were
taken from that committee, in order to
lessen the power of Mr - . Randall, and giv¬
en to other committees, and they have
never been restored, so that it is possible
for extravagant appropriations to be re¬
ported without the concurrence of the
Committee on Appropriations.
The Alliance Congressmen did not get
very desirable committee assignments,
but as they did not expect them, there
was no disappointment among them.
The latest news frofn Chili indicates
that the demands of this Government
will he refused, and even the conservative
people now fear that there will he war.
The pension payments for this month
aggregate about $11,000,000.
All of the four-and-a-half per cent
bonds which matured in September have
been either redeemed or extended except
about $3,000,000. They have come in
much faster than it was supposed they
would.
Senator Stanford has re-introduced the
bill providing for the erection of an addi¬
tion to the White House in accordance
with the plans proposed by Mrs. Harri¬
son, or other persons. He says he pro¬
poses to do his best to have this hill be¬
come a law at the present session of Con¬
gress. The addition or new residence
for the President and his family is badly
needed, but as the estimated cost is $950,
000, its fate may fairly bo considered
doubtful, because of the necessity for a
general retrenchment in order to make
our income meet our expenses.
Senator Carlisle introduced by request
a bill providing for the exemption of all
improvements on real estate from taxa¬
tion in the District of Columbia after
June30, 1892, and for making up the de¬
ficit by an increased rate of taxation on
the ground.
It is au established fact that De Witt’s
Little Early Risers have an enormous
sale, and why? Simply because they are
pleasant in taking and happy in results.
