I 11 1 a good speech was
at his very best . His toast,
“Our Country, Home of Democ
racy,” was most ably handled
by him and he was interrupted
I by generous applause.
Mr. W. J. Neel responded to
“The Young Democracy” and
made a splendid ten minutes
talk. Mr. Neelis a complete
master of English and was at
home completely.
Mr. C. W. Underwood had
‘ the most popular subject of the
evening in “Fitzhugh Lee.”
The mention of the name was
the signal for a thrilling out
burst of applause and at the close
I of every eloquent and well
rounded period Mr. Underwood
was cheered and applauded to
the echo. His speech was one of
the distincts hits of the evening.
. I have never had the pleasure
of listening to an after dinner
speech from Judge Henry before
’ last night. Jam now prepared
to say that I hoye I shall hear
many more. Judge Henry’s
speech was charming in diction,
( pleasing in construction and elo
quent in delivery. As a prophet
| he was not without honor in his
own country last night. He said
that W. J. Bryan would be the
j. next president and he was hear-
I tily cheered.

The last speech was made by
Mr. Bryan and like all the rest
,it was pleasing. I have com

and it is not necessary to sav
