|Ur. John G. Ramey's Rock
Ground Meal -
GROWING MORE POPULAR.
New Railroad Move to Secure
Better Oullot.
The old Rome City Mills, one
of the most famous corn mills
in the country, under the enter
prising management of Mr. John
G. Ramey, has taken on a new
lease of life, or rather has renew
ed the days of theii young grind,
and by the grade and quantity
of their output, added new terri
tory to their fame.
List month Mr. Ramey was
forced to run the mills day and
night and then the entire output
of 1200 bushels daily, was not
sufficient to supply the demand,
or fill the orders.
To meet the emergency new
j machinery is to be added at an
early date. But the mills have
always been handicapped by
being located about three blocks
from a railroad yard.
To remedy this and remove
the necessity for heavy daily
transfer and truckage fees, Mr.
Ramey succeeded, along with
Manager Hancock, of the Rome
Ice Co., whose plant is just a
block further up the Oostanaula
river, in interesting the C. R. &
,8., people in extending the yard
limits of their road.
The rights of way were final
ly secured, and last night the C.
R. & S., construction gang
crossed Second avenue and are
now working towards the Rome
Citv Mills plant.
The output of these mills
readily command from 11 to> 2
cents per bushel premium on the
common corn meal. The Rome
City Mills product is the very
finest grade of rock ground In
dian meal. Mr. Ramey is an ex
pert in grain and will buy none
but the very best corn for hi s
I mills.
i His market extends from
Rome to the coast cities and is
only limited in output by the
capacity of his mills.
; Upon the completion of the
railway tracks to the mills new
machinery will be added and the
output largelv increased. The
daily pay roll of eleven is one
of the many small factors that
I keeps the city of modern Rome
' steadily growing.
HALF A BILLION
New York, April 7. —The New
York Life Insurance Company
offers to loan the government
$10,000,000 in case of war with
Spain.
Other companies will follow
suit, and it is predicted that a
j loan of at least $200,000,000 can
be had from the insurance com
panies of the country alone.
I It is estimated that a popular
loan would bring $300,000,000
more, thus creating an emergen
cy war fund of half a billion dol-
'lars.
