that what McKinley lacks in
backbone he makes up in “discres

Timothy Going is a mechanical,
or rather musical gvwius t-ven it he

But here is the story the Hu t’er
Commercial wants to relate:
For s'me cause or o her the I g
organ of St. Peter’s Etrcopal
church got out of whack on Sa'ur
day . So bad ly demoralized was
the instrument that when air was
pumped in the noize emitted v.as
similar to the wheeze that might
be imagined of a cross between a
mad buzz saw and a beilowsed
horse after a ra :e.
Every effort was made to over
come Ibe difficulty and remedy
the de f eat but to no avail. Piano (
tuners and musici ns tru.d he task '
and gave up in despair
To the good ladies of St. Peters
there was but one person who
knew bow to doctor the grand.old
organ when it was out fix and that
persoe was a negro the name of
Timothy Going.
w But where was Tim?
A hasty though futile search
was made.
Later on Timothy's asylum was
found to be in the county jail .
The ladies sought the sheriff du 1
the sheriff had no authority and I
so they went in quest of his honor j
Judge Henry. 1 had grown la e
but clever Deputy Sheriff Turner
preposed to wait.
Finally the zeal of the noble
though muchly anuyed ladies was
rewarded, His Honor granted a
special order directing the sheriff
to take Timothy Going from jail
and permit him to repair St,
P iters church organ.
Timothy was carried to the
church by Diputy Sheriff Turrer
and m half an hour had the
defect remedied and the organ in
,uue for the glad Easter music.
Deputy Turner says that when
Tim tore up the organ to go inside
of it he felt certain he had an ail
night job ahead of him . Not so.
however, the negro kn< w the job
he had before him and did it in
1, 2. 3,4, time .
