THEDFORD IN JSIL.
ft
flic Rome Medicine Man
Serving His Sentence
FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT
His Fine of $250 Was Remitted
by The Judge.
Sunday’s Constitution says of
Dr. M. A. Thedford’s fine and
30 days sentence :
M. A. Thedford, the Rome
medicine man, who was sentenc
ed to jail and to pay a line by
Judge Newman for contempt of
court, was locked in Fulton
ounty’s prison yesterday morn
ing, where he will remain for
thirty, days.
Thedford was tried and con
victed several days ago, but
asked permission to go home on
important business, and Judge
Newman allowed him leave of,
absence without bond. Thedford,
promised to show’ up yesterda'-,
and truejto his word he pul in an
appearance when court was con
vened.
Judge Newman decided t » re
mit the fine of $250, and the only j
punishment meted out to the;
medicine man was his imprison
-1 meat. He has comfortable quar
ters ut the jail.
The Thedford cas' has been
in the courts for a. uumb'r of
■ years, lie was the original owner
|of Thedford's Black Draught., a
patent medicine, the rights of
which he afterwards sold to the;
Chattanooga Medicine Com
pany. Not ivilhst nidiug this fact, j
it is said Thedford continu 'd to
manufa.Hlire and sell his me li
; cities. The Chattanooga people ‘
I were represented by John L
Hopkins and Sons, of Atlanta.
! The case is one that has at
tracted widespread interest, and
is the first of its kind that his
ever occurred in Georgia.

An observing man learns that a woman
who is physically weak and'nervous and in
capable, is likely to be ill-natured too. The
sweetest temper is ruined by continual
sickness.
A. woman whose nerves are constantly
racked and dragged by debilitating drains
.nd inflammation, cannot be a genial com
panion or happy wife ; and she is totally
unfitted to be a mother.
These troubles prevail almost universally
among women largely because of careless
ness and neglect. There is no real need of
them. Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Prescription is
i positive specific for the weaknesses and
diseases of the feminine organism.
It < tires them radically and completely.
It heals, strengthens and purifies. It is the
