A KLOSTER OF
BULL’S EYE SHOTS.
This fight on the Rome police force
‘about talking politics'* isoni of
th. _i feol things that kick# both ways
and the man who monkeys with it in
apt to get the atuffin knocked outea
em the fust thing he knows That's
what,
9
9 *
I take the ground that the Rome
police force talks as little polities
while the men are on duty M aty
other branch of the city government.
And they talk much lees that some
of the upper officers of the eity gov
ernment and a great deal lees than
the ward heeler who is after electing
his ticket so that he can get on the
force.
*
• ■*
They are "getting onto" the force
now so that later on they can get on
the force.
*
» *
When a policeman is off duty, I
contend that he is a citizen and has
is much right to ‘‘lectioneer and
talk politics 1 * as any other citizen
and 1 dont know of any one who is
calking about the Rome force who
is not talking about their equals.
♦
* *
Let the Tribune shinay on its own
side and refrain from throwing bricks
about policemen talking politics or
if it is going into that business let it
inform its readers about how certain
officers and candidate* |'O the back
way to cert tin club rooms to at eid
certain kawkusses.
9*9
I know of one home in which
'here is sorrow grief and suffer ng.
Last night the two year old baby
ooy of Mrs. Chester Scott quietly
oaesed away.
Some weeks ago Mrs Scott quit
her case on The Hubtlir of Rome
Composing room to remain at
home with her four little children
•vho were too email to care for
themselves during the cold weath
er and today despite her tender
care she looaes her baby.
*
« «
Mrs. Scott worked for the Host
i. er er Rome for several months,
trying to learn the printers trade
and I believe her to be an honest.
Clod fearing woman. Her lot it in
deed a hard one. Her hutband is
in the penitentiary for life, leav
ing her in destitute circumstances
with four little ones to care for
and feed and raise .
*
• •
The funeral will occar tomorrow
One of the most pathetic incidents
that ever came under my observa
tion was her request to have the
photo of the dead innocent mad“
that she might tend it to ’be ooal
mines to its convict father. Os
course big hearted J. W. Lancas
ter could not refuse her, and the
picture will be sent .
♦
♦ *
Mrs. Scott is peculis ly Lwlpiaas
and yet she is without doubt a
most deserving mother and wo
man. She lives over Roberson's
bar on upper Broad St. Don't wait
but go see and sympathise with
her.
In writing up a ‘‘Moore’s meet
ing’’ held in Hallsville a few night
ago, the Tribune said this morning
that Mr. John Vandiver made a
speech. Now from what I learn,
the reporter must have had his
head full of “Tanglefoot”—What
it should have said was that can
didate Henry Hoskinson, the poli
tician made the speeah and it not
only covered much territory, but
an hour and fifteen minutes. Mr.
Vandiver was not present at that
meeting.
* *
«
Now as to the “complection of the
meeting’’—with the exception of six
men.—and two of them not register
ed. the complection was for John
Moore and no “perhaps” abeut it—
and they will be that way on the
•ixth of March too “mark that pre
