AT THE FITST BALLOT
The Defendant Congratulated and

“Not Guilty” is the verdict of the
Wilkerson Jury
And Frank Wilkerson with the
blood of Free Stephens on his hands,

house a free man
The Jury received trm charge

forenoon and retired to their room
at 9.10 o’clock they had returned

It read: “We the jury find the

Wilkerson’s face was slightly
paler while waiting for the verdict
when it was read a faint smile
played over his countenance and.
after receiving a few congratula

ehoked and the tears sprang to
his deep black eyes.
Yesterday afternoon was con

most able arguments ever deliver

PACKWOOD MURDER TRIAL
THE STATE IB MAKING OUT A VEBY
. WEAK CASE.
Taveras, Fla., April 11, —This
•vas the eighth day of the Pack
wood murder trial. The state in
troduced several witnesses who
swore that Mcßae, one of the de
fendants, was seen the day attar
rue murder: that Miss Bruce
fought bravely as they saw scratch
es on his neck. The state will
claim that Mcßie was scratched
by Miss Bruce while she was strug
gling for her life and honor.
An expert testified as to Mcßae*
shirt, which the witnesses say
was bloody. The expert swoic
that the shirt was blood stained,
but he would not swear the epotf
were huma i blood.
So far the state’s case against
the defendant seems to be rattiei
weak. It is purely circumstantial
and the greater portion of the evi
dence is unintelligible to persons
not thoroughly acquainted with
the locality.
