Savannah, Ga., September 25.
J. F. Lester, of Valdosta, who has
been making arrangements to es
tablish a national bank here with
a capital of SIOO,OOO, has received
a letter from the competroller of
the currency stating that he will
have to make his capital $200,000
in order to receive a charter for a
national bank.
The competroller has reasons to
believe that Savannah is a city of
more than 50,000 inhabitants, and
under the national banking laws
in a city of that size or above no
national tfunk can be established
with a capital of less than $200,-
000.
The competroller would not
take the census figures, which give
Savannah less than 44,000. Mr.
Lewis will make it a State bank
and capitalize the institution as
originally intended.

STORM TOMIGHT
Look out for Heavy Winds in
Rome
A terrible hurricane which com
menced in the Islands of Cuba
Sunday evening, is sweeping in
this direction.
The weather men say it will
reach this B<ction some time to
night or in the morning, but it may
branch off or spend its fury before
it gets here But it is well enough
to watch out for it in case the
prophets are right for once.

I am impressed very forcibly with,
the curtain of silence which seems,
to roll down over the wake of old Dr

Another item J notice in Stan
ton’s column Is the item saying
that the Sunday morning Tribune
with twelve pages was one of th g
largest newspapers Rome has ever
known. If Stanton knows the- facts
he knows that the Sunday Hust

for three Sundays. Perhaps Frank
didn’t know—and perhaps Thank,
was getting more pay for it than
the Tribune does for the Sheriffs,
and other official adds which it
coppies from The Hustler of
Rome. Stanton is famed for his
humor anyhow—we admire the

I clip this item from Frank
Stanton’s bright column of this

Two Georgia editors recently in

only broke the record in this, but'
failed to devote the proceeds of
their vast estates to the enlarge

one of them went out of the busi
