HER THROAT CUT
A Most Atrocious Crime Commit
ted in Macon
THE GHASTLY FIND
Was Made in the Woods nea
That C : ty on Yesterday.
The Crime Committed
Just Back of Sells
Bros. Show Tent.
Circus day in Macon wound up
.n one of the most atrocious mur
ders ever committed i.i tne city.
Ida Hicks a young negro woman
who was well known about the
town, was found dead this morn
ing in the rear of where the circus
tent stood last night.
The woman’s throat had been
cut almost from ear to ear and she
had been stabbed on<\e in the left
breast, The body was lying face
downward when foipid, and ap*
peared to have been dragged from
a point near the circus tent close
to the little branch which runs in
the rear of the East Tennessee cot
ton yards.
Coroner Knight was notified of
the horrible find shortly after 7
o’clock this morning and he at
once i-mpanm-led a jury, with J.
W. Douglass as foreman, and be
fore 11 o’clock a verdict had been
found to the effect that the wo
man was Ida flicks and that she
came to her death by two knife
wounds inflicted by a party or par
ties unknown.
A STRUGGLE FOR LIFE
The appearance of the woman’s
clothing and the ground around
indicated that she had given her
murderer a desperate struggle’ but
it was not clear whether or not she
had been otherwise assaulted.
borne are of the opinion that the
murder was committed at a point
nearly one hundred yards from j
where tl e body was found and that
the murderer had dragged his vic
tim, while still living, to the spot
where she lay this morning.
Or it may be that she crawled
there after receiving her death
wound. At any rate her left hand
clutched her throat as if to stop
the flow of blood, and for this rea
son it was clear that she was not
dead when she reached the spot
where her body lay this morning.
