Hon. W. C. Glenn Challenges
Hon. George R Brown.
Brown Declines to
Duel, but Will De
fend his Person.
Last night’s Atlanta Journal
contains a number of letters
which have recently passed be
tween Hon. W. C. Glenn of At
lanta and Hon. George R, Brown
of Canton.
The correspondence grows out
of Mr. Browns card in the Consti
tution of Sept. 22nd, in which
Glenn and Maddox, of Atlanta were
unmercifully flayed.
The dates of the correspondence
show that it begun immediately
after said publication. Mr. Glenn
challenges Mr. Brown to meet him
out of the state and Mr. Brown
replies that he does not believe in
dueling hut that he stands ready
to defend his person as he has done
his character.
From the correspondence it looks
like George R. Brown is still on
top.

mend that he be appointed.
G. M. Peel was duly nominated
to succeed T. N. Pinson for Nota

and it is recommended that ho be

1. N. Pinson was duly nomina

G. M. District, and it is recom
mended that he be appointed
We have examined the books
of the Justice of Peace and Nota
ry Public and find them as a
whole, well kept. We recommend
that, the pay of the Jurors and
Bailiffs remain as heretofore two
dollars per day.
The report on the mads are long
and exhaustive. As a whole the
roads are in a fairly good condi
tion, but many need work.
We wish to call special atten
tion to the Iron Bridges in Rome.
We are informed tnat they need
leveling and tightening up’.And we
would ask that the Electric Car
Company be required to fix their
tracks across the bridges by put
ting down and keeping in repairs,
such timber as will enable wagons
and other vehicles to cross their
rails without the risk of injuring
them. In their present condition,
vehicles are frequently being
damaged by their being neglected,
and we ask that the Board of Com
missioners have this matter at
tended to immediately.
The report on the books of the
county officers is complete, and
shows them all to be kept in first
class shape.
They recommended that $5,000
worth of bonds be issued.
The Grand Jury recommended
that the full report be published
in the two daily papers in Rome,
but the Judge would not grant the
request.
