BLOODY MYSTERY.
Man and Wife Found Murdered in
New York.
Yildleton N, Y , October 9,
A m t vHerious murder and suicide or
double murder occurred in this city
this morning, John Tierney was
found with a bullet hole in his right
temple. Hii wife was lying near him
with a bullet hole in her left breast,
while a pistol lay a few feet away.
The affair occurn din a case owned
and conducted by Mrs. Tierney. An
aged uncle, Robert Flynn, awoke at
6:30 o'clock this morning and went
down stairs to the kitchen in the
b aement and built a fire, while thus
engaged he heard a report, which
did not seem to him, be said like
that of a pistol, and the fall of a boby.
A moment later it «as followed t'y
another report. He sent a young man,
who had just come in the back door
cf the caf , to asc< t in the cause of
the noise. The young man returned,
reporting nothing.
Shortely afterward Mrs. Tierney’s
son Thon a<. who was said to have
b A en adeep on a eofa in the kitchen,
w< n up and found the two dead
bo lies. His mother lay in the parlor
with her feet in the bedroom adjoin
ing, and his stepfather lay in the
c enter of the parlor He ran to his
mother and found the body stil)
warm, 'Tierney was gasping and
frothing at the mouth.
What at firs* appeal d to 1 e i mur
der and a suisid« now looks to the
authorities like d able murder. Tier
ney married Mis. McGuir , a widow
with a son, five weeks ago. Tboma g
was very angry at the m irriage he
took a 44-caliber British bulldog
revolver and threw it behind a trunk
in a closet in his bedroom. He claims
that no one knew it was there but
himself.
Mrs Tierney owned a case which,
previous to her marriag* , it was be
lieved would go t) Thomas when she
die t. This was not hkelv. however
after she marred Tierney.
Th re were two otheis in the house
who say they did not hear ai y pistol
shots.
Young Tierney gives it as his
opinion that his mother was mur
dered by h« r husband, who, he
asserts, committed suicide.

London October 9—A dispatch
to the Standard from Berlin says
that the negotiations of the powers
with the United States, with a view
to the joint protection of their sub
jects in China are eaid to be much
advanced by the Anglo french
agreement on the subject and a
gueeral entente may shortly be ex
pected.
The dispatch further eays that
Austria has entrusted the protec
tion of her subjects in China to
Germany.
The Japanese Government has
intrusted Field Marshall Yamaga
to inform the diplomats at Seoul
that be will not allow the Japanese
army to plunder Peking in case
that city in taken. The assureance
will probably induce the diplomats
to stay in Peking even should the
Emperor leave the capital.
