Jeveral of a Sanctified Gang Jail
ed an i Fined.
Onancock, Va., November 6.
flic trial of the sanctified bund
was concluded here today. The ju
ry brought in a verdict of guilty as
to Joseph B. Lynch, the leader of
the bund: Wm. J. Chandler and
Sarah E. Collins. John Collins,
Sarah's husband, was acquitted,
because he was weal.-.ninded.
The courtroom was packed when
the last live witnesses were examin
'd. All were married, and told the
same story of having’become sanct
ified when they found they could
not understand the Scriptures with
their wives. It was then they elect
jd more congenial co-workers.
The Attorney
handled the sanctified crowd with
out gloves in his address to the ju
ry. He appealed to the jury to
stamp out the pestiferous
of imposters whose teaching threat
ened to undermine the structure of
society.
The jury soon brought in a ver
dict, and with these penalties:
Lynch, six months in jail and $250
fine; Chandler six months and S2OO,
and Sarah Collins, four months
and SIOO fine.
As they marched to jail Lynch
said he was g ad to serve God in a
dungeon. The rest of the band the n
surrounded the jail and wen
through their peculiar service,
winding up with promiscuous hug
ging and kissing. The verdict meets
with general approval.
