Two Brothers Kill a Professor Who
Insulted Their Sister.
A gentleman who was in the city
last night tram West Point, Ga.,
said that on lest Saturday night
two brothers shot a negro preacher
name .Turner, who h.d written an
insulting letter to their sister.
Yesterday they learned that
•furner was not dead, so they took
a friend and went to the house
where Turner was being nursed.
A negio woman met them at the
door and brained one of the men
with an ax. She and Turner wert
then killed.
An effort is being made, so the
infor.nanijs ated, to| suppress the
story, as the brothers are ] r >m
iuently connected. It was '• puss -
ble to learn their names. —

ONE MAN-ONE OFFICE.
Savanah, Ga., Dec., 20.—The
one-office-for-one-man bill which
has just been approved by the gov
ernor has caused a good deal of
talk here. It was introduced by
Chatham s representativesand was
aimed at Captain John R. Dillon,
the county tax reciever and clerk
of the county commissioners.
Captain Dillon belongs to a fac
tion which opposed the present rep -
resentatives. Now that the bill has
become a law, several candidates
for the office of clerk of the county
commissioners have sprung up, as
Captain Dillon will, of course,
give up that office rather than that
of tax receiver, which is a better
one.
Fired an old Rat.
New York, Dec. 20. —Mejer
Rosenberg, of No. 12 Ludlow street,
has been greatly annoyed by rats
Yesterday Paliceman Hoop, of the
Eloridge Street Sattion,saw Rosen
berg some out of the house with a
live rat in his hands.
‘‘l’ll show you what you get for
waking me out of my sleep,” He
exclaimed, as he lit a match and
set fire to the rodent, which had
been saturated with kerosene. The
creators ran squealing down the
street. The policeman follwed and
killed it. Then he went after
Rosenberg. There was an exciting
chase that rsm had that densely
crowded tenement street filled
with people. Rosenbeg was in his
slippers. He was caught as he dog
ed under a wagon He claimed
that the policeman got the wrong
man. In Essex Market Court Jus
tice Feitner held him for trial for
cruelty to animals.
•‘This is the third case of this
kind that has come up in this
court recently,” said the Justice.

KIDNAPED A WOMAN.
A Desperate Criminal Takes An*
other Man’s wife to the SwamPs
Birmingham, Ala., Dec. 20. —
Jim Morrison, the Jefferson coun
ty desperado, who has figured in
almost every conceivable crime,
from murder down, has turned up
with another sensation.
He has been in league with a
man named Sexton, who was arreit
ed yesterday for passing counter
feit money. Morrison has been
stealing anything he could get his
hands on that would do to eat.
He has been lying in the swamps
about six miles South of Bessemer
for some time and staying at Sex
ton’s house. A few days ago Mor
rison kissed Sexton’s wife in his
presence. Sexton boiled with wrath
and as soon as possible gave Morri
son away to the officers.
On Saturday night Morrison
came up to Sexton’s house, took
his pal’s wife and mad* for the
swamps. The officers think now
that they have a better chance of
capturing him.
