month he will leave the post of

Fourth of July celebration by
Tammany will be unusally •bril
liant this year. A numbar of
proiminent southerner will speak
■on occasion and the program in

ordinary interest.
The special orators of the occa
sion will be Secretary Hoke Smith
of Georgia, and Hon.. Josiah Pat
terson, of Tennessee.

Mr. James Perdue, an old sol
diet residing at Monroe, Mich,
was severely with rheu
matism but received prompt re

A Terrible Death.
Conshohcoken, Ohio, June 13.--
A terrible accident occurred on
the farm of the estate of the late
John Tracy, situated on the Con
shohocken piae, about half a mile
above this borough, Jate yester
day afternoon, by which Patrick
Hanley’jr. a young man lost his
life.
Young Hanley, with his father,
Thomas O’Neill and Peter Mehan,
were engaged in cleaning a well
and late in the afternoon Hanley
took his turn at working in the
bottom, one hundred and thirty
feet below the level of the ground,
and while engaged in shovelingin
the muddy bottom the descending
bucket struck a projecting stone
in the top wall and it fell to the
bottom, crushing Hanley’s skull,
killing him instantly.
Fire To Conceal Murder
Leesport, Pa., July 3.--The home
of Mrs. Elizabeth Bossier, aged
70 years, was burned early yester
day morning. Mrs. Bossier is mis
sing and it is supposed she perish
ed in the flames. She lived alone,
and it is said she had a consider
able amount of money and that
she may have been murdered and
the dwelling fired to conceal the
crime. It is said a man called last
night after 9 o’clock and asked for
a cup of coffee, which was refused,
owing to the late hour. The debris
will be cleared away tomorrow.
A Child Killed Hersjlf.
Poughkeepsie, N. Y. , June 13. - •
May Conklin, 10 years old, be
came an inmate of the De Peystsr
idustnal Home at Trivoli last
week. According to the rules the
child’s hair was cut short. She
>»came sullen and morose, and
Tuesday took a dose of paris green
nixed with sugar. She died last
uight. The child told the matron
.hat she took the poison “because
my beautiful golden hair had been
cut off, and I did not wish to live
wighout it. ”
Georgian Died In Prison- *
Columbus, O , June 13.—Wil
liam W. Bird, a United States
prisoner sent up from Georgia in
1890 for a term of eight years for
violating the revenue laws, died
in prison yesterday.
He had been ill for several
months with pulmonary diseases.
Two weeks ago S4OO was found
sewed in the lining of his coat and
it was sent to his son in Muscogee
county.
Bog Died Os Hydrophobia
Harrisburg, Pa., June 13.
Walter Heisterkamp, aged 10
years, who was being taken from
his room at Pittsburg to Washing
ton, D. C,, to be treated for hy
drophobia, died on a train near
this city yesterday. He was seized
with convulsions and suffered in
tensely.
Killeu bg a Bicycle.
New Orleans, June 13.—Captain
Thomas P. Leathers, the veteran
steamboatman who was struck by
a bicycle several weeks ago, died
at 2 :30 yesterday morning. The (
captain has been unconscious the
most of the time since his injury.
Ho leaves nine children, two ■
grandchildren and a wife. '
