A NSW PARTY.
The U! willingness of President Johnson to
place biuiscit before the country as aDeraocrai,
and to call around him bis former poli:ic>il
a-stCiafes, together with the almost hopeles
ills i;v.ni!i; 'ion and demoralization of the De
mccratic parly, have led to the suggestion
that a new parly be organized, to be called
the Liberal party. No party has ever opposed
P a su-ccs:- ul war in this country and survived
a. Thi.-efoie. the Democratic party of tb-
North lias no future. There is another faei
which indicates the neces.ity of a new party.
Tie- lri :h ire gravitating in our large cieies to
fbe R- publicans. I'hey cannot stand the
% blandishm?nt of power, and the Democratic
leaders have no patronage to dispense. ■ Then.
Again, there are thousands of the Republican
party who are longing for an opportunity to
escajc from its folds, to whom the Democratic
party'is no«n»*th:ng hateful. These Republi
cans are the most just of that party, and wouid
be especially quick to harmonize with the
South in checking the boundless extravagance
and onercus taxation which is a part of the
” pbTanthropy ” ofThad. Stephens & Oo
The e is (£|ccial need of an eff. rt to scucrc
the country from the jcckals oT the Treasury
who now have possession. A new party,
with a new name, would -enable President
Johnson to assume his true position, and
bring the patriotism and decency of the corn
try'ttp to his support.
Precisely what direction may be given to
practical meaauros, as regards the proposed new
party, it is not easy to predict. I can only say
that the preseut positions of parties gives the
conservatives much uneasiness.

gold will nga;n rise above 140. I have it from
the government broker, that the Nations 1

Evening dress of straw colored silk, the pkirt
trimmed with four flounces of Brussels lace of
medium width. The corsage is trimmed in n
similar style, but the lace much narrower, and

of the sleeves falling a little below it.

made p'aiu aud full, and a sacque of velvet o
the same shade, with heavy ornaments at the
back and front. Tho favor.te materials so:
walking costumes are meriuos and cashmeres
The ti: st are very fine aud soft, falling back ti
the figure almost like mouselirie. Plain colore
are tm-sf in favor, aud, most of all, a new rich
hue of dark brown. Other styles embrace
greens, blues, crimsons, corn color, purples and
scarlets. The same colors aud shades are in
cashmere at less cost.
A short, loose sacque, of while merino
triratned with ornaments of'white eilk, lined
wrA a pale rose color, the edge finished with i
haary white silk cord, is among the novelties.
A Honiton collar, of “sailor shape,’’is worn
with the basque, and is veiy pretty,
ofedrab wool de laine, with a
bright scirlet bordering extending up tb<

Pinner drees of steel colored poplin, plainh
gored in front, trimmed with black velvet but
tons up the entire frotit; coat sleeve, with black
lace epaulettes, made in three box pleats. A
narrow Imnd of the poplin r ning through thf
centre makes it very stylish.
There are several styles of trimming for the
ueavy drees goods now worn, viz: box quilling
of merino, with narrow velvet ribbon in thf
4-euttv. Another and more expensive is o'
velvet, nne|iach wide, the shade of the dress
and checked at the bottom and top of th«
sleeve: the skirt being trimmed in the same
manner. With the check put on in the middle
of the breadth, half way up the skirt.
There is little change in the shape or style ol
the bonnets.
There is a novelty in the spring skirls. Ihe
latest style has a double gore, which gi\et>
roach elegance to the hanging kof the dress
skirt, at d Is in dispensable when the dress ia
mad" with a trail.
A new close-fitting basqueiis just out, and <§
very pretty. 'lt is not UDlike the style of those
worn ten years ago. The front is rounded, and
ia worn for a waist; trimmed with a velvet
ribbon the same shade as the basque, put oo ip
box pleats. The basque button* tightly to the
throat, pnd for common wear may be the same
color as the skirt; for evening, the colors
should differ, as to complexion and taste
