The Rome Courier rates the cattle of
Cherokee Georgia as poorer than in any
other section. Poor, lank, dumpy cows,
that a Virginia farmer would drown—mel
ancholy balls that look as if they were
actually ashamed to live, and calves that
in their meek inferiority stir the very soul
with pity. The Courier considers this
should not be thus in that rolling, rich
grass country, and prescribes a remedy in
the formation of a farmer’s clnb for the im
portation of blooded cattle and sheep.
Two thousand of the colored people of
Savannah, on Tuesday, celebrated the
Fifteenth Amendment proclamation. No
white man took part iu the proceedings.
A mulatto did the spouting, and a small
field-piece (possibly emblematic. of the
pacific results of this abortion) was on the
ground and was fired occassionally during
the afternoon. Five of the female white
teachers of the Beach Institute were pres
ent, seated in an elegant carriage, with a
colored driver in livery.
The Athens Watchman, alluding to the
extraordinary late Spring, remarks that all
the early planted vegetables and most of
the early blooming fruits were destroyed
by frosts and freezes some time ago, while
the vegetables since planted have a very
sickly appearance. In consequence of the
extraordinary cold and otherwise unpro
pituous weather, farming operations are
unusually backward in all the region
around and above that place.
Tint Future of Meat. —George W.
Phillips, Jr., Provision and Produce Broker
of Cincinnati, in his circular of March 19th
■ays:
The cutting of hogs for Winter packing
has virtually closed for the season, but the
returns as yet have not been made public
and it matters little whether they are pub
lished or not. The crop is so much in ex
cess of that anticipated, that correct re
turns cannot be arrived at this season. The
packing at this point as published by the
Price Current is a farce and valueless
for statistical purposes. The editor gives
as the total receipts exclusively of ship
ments for the season, 364,544 hogs, count
ing 50 hogs to the car, but when he makes
up his estimate for the packing he finds
that the hogs were so very heavy this season
that they could get only 40 instead of 50
to the car; yet he makes the increase in*
weight only 12 pounds per hog, or two
hogs to the caf over 40. His estimate of
the Cincinnati packing is 335,330 hogs with
12 lbs. increase in weight, which would
make 855,300 hogs at last year’s weight.
Statistics, unless positively correct, are
as dangerous to work on as the edge tool
is to handle and I would advise the trade
this season to pay very little attention to
them. The high price paid for the hog, the
large crop and the heavy loss which the
packer is now realizing, will forever stifle
correct statistics. We have hog product
enough to supply the world, and in our
great Western farms we are raising the
hog and marketing them daily and will all
the year round. Buy what you want and
as you want it at current prices and it may
prove as profitable in the end as to have
worked on false statistics in hopes at large
profits.
The devil-fish of Victor Hugo’s fiction
has its counterpart. A crab caught iu
Yokohama Bay weighed about 40 pounds,
had legs over five feet in length, and its
mouth contained two large teetli. When
in the water its strength was such that it
conld have quite overpowered a man.—
This horrible ghoul, as if attracted by that
appalling calamity, was found clinging to
the masthead of the recently sunken steam
er Oneida. A taxidermist In San Fran

Koskoo Cures Scrofula in its Worst Forms.
From A. W. Mills, a prominent and well
known Merchant of Norfolk, Va.: *
No. 11 Main street, Norfolk, Va, Septemb«r 16, 1869.
Dr. Lawrence— Dear Bir: Your Koskoo
has worked wonders iu my family. My daugh
ter has been a sufferer from Scrofula since
childhood. Bbe lost thirty-one pieces of bone
from her ankle, several lrom her arm, besides
having ulcers in several parts of tho body.—
Whilst in this condition she commenced taking
your Koskoo— it acted like a charm on her; un
der its use the ulcers gradually healed , and her
yeneral health greatly improved. It certainly
saved her much suffering, and perhaps her life.
I regard Koskoo a specific for dll scrofulous
affections. Your Koskoo also cured my wife
of dyspepsia, from which the suffered greatly.
She is now in better health than she has been in
live years.
With the highest regards,
I am gratefully yours, &e.,
A. W. MILLS.
Koskoo is endorsed by the best physiciaus
everywhere. Read the following from Dr.
Tillery, a successful practitioner of many years
standing in the Old North State;

September 10, 1869. )
Dr. J. J. Lawrence— Dear Bir: I have used
your Conceutrated Fluid Extract of Koskoo in
my practice with the happiest results. I fiud it
to be a powerful Liver Invigorator, Blood Pu
rifier, and Nervous Tunic. In all diseases of
the Liver, Scrofulous, Syphilitic and Nervous
Affections, it is o remedy of immense value ;
in fact, in almost every variety of Chronic
Diseases its use is indicated. Hoping you
may meet with the success which you deserve
as a manufacturer of reliable medicines, I am,
sir, with much respect,
Your obedient servant,

Norfolk, Va., September 7, iB6O.
Dr. J. J. Lawrence—Dear Sir: My son has
received so much benefit from your wonderful
Koskoo that I cannot retrain from expressing
my gratitude. I had tried almost everything
without benefit. 1 believe, in all sincerity, that
your Koskoo is an infallible remedy for the
disease from which he has suffered, and, so far
as I can learn, has never failed. If you
knew the immense amount of suffering thai-oe
has undergone, then you could conceive the
value of such a remedy as Koskoo— that surely
cubes. The great amount -es good it is now
doiug among ns is inestimable.
With much gratitude,
I am, respectlully, yours, &e.,

FROM DR. LLOYD, A PHYSICIAN OF LARGE
PRACTICE.
Great Bridge, Va., October 8,1869.
J. J. Liwsssor, M. D.—Dear Bir : I cheer
fully endorse your Koskoo as being a most
valuable preparation. Upon examination of
the lormnla, I find each ingredient highly ex
tolled by our best and most progressive clini
cal investigators. I have tested its effects in
my own practice, and have no hesitation in
recommending it. In my opinion, itis the best
compound of its class ever put before the pub
lic —exceeding by far ail the various compounds
of Sarsaparilla, «fcc , ever invented. It is a de
cided Nerve Tonic, and Invigorator of the ani
mal forces, aiding digestion and assimilation,
and thereby producing healthy blood, which
should he the basis of treatment in all chronic
diseases. Hoping you will reap the reward
you deserve from the public as a benefactor,
I am, sir, yours truly,
CHARLES LLOYD.

It has been the custom to treat these dis
