SUNDAY MORNING. MAY 15,1870

Col. Aiken and Immigration.
A GERMAN VIEW OF THE QUESTION.
Col. D. Wyatt. Aiken litis proved by his
speech which he aellVefed befcti-lta Immi
gration, Mechanclcai and Agricultural
Convention, that In sis years since the
close of the civil yar, in which time much
could have been learned and much accom
plished to restore the conquered and Im
poverished South to its former posperity,
Jut has not learned the least thing. A
genuine “slavocrat*” who sees in the wealth
of a single individual the prosperity of his
country, he overlooks all facts, overlooks
the cities of the North and West, which
have been made great and prosperous prin
cipally through German industry and Ger
man/Vc# labor. Only through slavery, he
thinks, could a country become wealthy,
and as he seems to know at least this
much, that the German cannot be governed
by the whip, he does not speak.in favorable
terms of them, but ratherspies, in Koop
manschaap and his Ohfnese, the Messiah
and the Apostles of the South. Why not ?
Has not even the negro become so insolent
as to demand money for his work every
Saturday, while “Johnny” is satistled with
fresh meat and rice? Besides, “Johnny”
don’t know much about social equality,
while the German already knows in the old
Fatherland that a residence of five years in
America makes him a citizen of the same;
and he also knows that the negroes have
likewise oeeri made voters by*the Fifteenth
Amendment. And shall German immi
grants enjoy social equality with gentle
men? Gentlemen are only the “Slave
Pachas,” who do nothing hut issue orders
at the most. Gentlemen are, perhaps, the
barons, dukes, princes, kings and Empe
rors of Europe, and they are so stupid as
not to come over here to enjoy the friend
ship of Colonel Aiken. The immigrants
who hive acquired wealth by the labor of
their hands, and through it have made this
country great, are not gentlemen! God be
praised that the ranks of such lights are
thlnnlng. and that better ideas are already
finding expression. People of that class
should be stuffed after their death, and be
placed in a glass case asobjects of curiosity
and remembrance.
Some sensible person has given publicity
to the following, which is certainly beau
tiful:
Three things to love—Courage, gentle
ness and affection.
Three things to hate—Cruelty, arrogance
and ingratitude.
Three things to delight in—Beauty, frank
ness and freedom!
Three things to wish for—Health, friends
and a cheerful spirit.
Three things to avoid—ldleness, loquaci
ty and flippant jesting.
Three things to pray for—Faith, peace
and purity of heart.
Three things to contend for—Honor,
country and friends.
Three things to govern—Temper, tongue
and conduct.
Three things to think about—Life, death
and eternity.
Miss Anthony, in her Revolution, makes
the astounding proposition "to women, to
charge their husbands, and make them pay
greenbacks for each baby honr. She sensi
bly establishes the price at SIOO for girl
babies, and 200 for boys, with twins and
triplets higher, in proportion to the labor
performed, and all 1 this to be C. O. D.
Well, Susab, lead off yourself, and see if
they will follow youj? example. Any small

Who can doubt the benefit of advertising
after reading the following: “ A family in
piorlda lost their little boy, and they ad
vertised for him in the daily paper. That
very afternoon an alligator crawled up qut
qf the 6wamp and died qn the frqqt doqr
step. Ia his stomach were found a hand
ful of red hair, some bone buttons, a glass
alley, a brass-barreled pistol, a Sunday
school book, and a pair qf check pants.

Eoskoo Cures Scrofula in its Worst Forms,
From A. W. Mills, a prominent and well
known Merchant of Norfolk, Va.:
No. 11. Main street, Norfolk, Va., September 15, 1869.
Db. LAWRENCE-Dear Sir: Your Koskoo
has worked wonders in my family. My daugh
ter has been a sufferer from Scrofula since
childhood. She lost tbirty-one pieces of bone
from her ankle, several from her arm, besides
having ulcers in several parts of the body
Whilst in ibis condition she commenced taking
your Koskoo —it acted like a charm on her; un
der its use the ulcers gradually healed , and her
general health greatly improved. It certainly
saved her much suffering, and perhaps her life.
I regard Koskoo a specific for all scrofulous
affections. Your Koskoo also cured my wife
of dyspepsia, from which she suffered greatly.
She is now in better health than she has been in
five years.
With the highest regards,
I am gratefully yours, &e.,
A. W. MILLS.
Koskoo is endorsed by the best physicians
everywhere. Read the following from Dr.
Tillery, a successful practitioner of maoy years
standing in the Old North State:
Rocky Mount, Edgecomb Cos., /
September 10, 1860. \
Dk. J. J. Lawrence— De»r Sir: I have used
your Concentrated Fluid Extract of Koskoo in
ray practice with the happiest results. I find it
to be a powerful Liver lnvigorator , Blood Pu
rifier, and Nervous Tonic. In all diseases of
the Liver, Bcrolnlous, Syphilitic and Nervous
Affection ), it is a remedy of immense value ;
in fact, in almost every variety of Chronic
Diseases its use is indicated. Hoping you
may meet with the 6ucces6 which you deserve
as a manufacturer of reliable medicines, I am,
sir, with much respect,
Your obedient servant,

Koskoo Cures Chronic Rheumatism.
Norfolk, Va., September 7, 1869.
Dk. J. J. Lawrence— Dear Sir: My son has
received so much benefit from your wonderful
Koskoo that I cannot retrain from expressing
my gratitude. I had tried almost everything
without benefit. I believe, in ail sincerity, that
your Koskoo is an infallible remedy for the
disease from which he has suffered, and, so far
as I can learn, has never failed. If you only
knew the immense amount of suffering that he
has undergone, then you could conceive the
value of such a remedy as Koskoo — that subely
cures. The great amount ol good it is now
doing among us is inestimable.
With much gratitude,
I am, respectfully, yours, Ac.,
Mrs. M. E. A." NELBON.
FROM DR. PHYSICIAN OF LARGE
Great Bridge, Va., October 8,1889.
J. J. Lawrence, M. D.—Dear Sir : I cheer
fully endorse your Koskoo as being a most
valuable preparation. Upon examination of
the formula, I find each ingredient highly ex
tolled by our best and most progressive clini
cal investigators. I have tested Us effects in
my own practice, and have no hesitation in
recommending it. In my opinion, it is the best
compound of its class ever pat before the pub
lic —exceeding by far all the various compounds
of Sarsaparilla, Ac., ever invented. It is a de
cided Nerve Tonic, and lnvigorator qf fha ani
mal forces, aiding digestiop and assimilation,
and thereby producing healthy blood, whicu
should be the basis of treatment in all chronic
diseases. Hoping you will reap the reward
you deserve from the public as a benefactor,
I am, sir, yours truly,
CHARLES LLOYD.
