The dwelling house of Mr. John R. Pin
ley, residing on Rabun creek, Laurens dis
trict, was burned on the 19th. Not an ar
ticle of furniture or clothing of Mr. Finley
dr family was saved, the household sup
plies also being consumed.
A meeting will be held at Allendale on
Wednesday, 7th September, at which Judge
Aldrich, Col. Rutledge and other distin
guished speakers, in favor of the reform
movement, are expected to speak. There
will be a free barbecue.
The endowment of Furman University to
the amount of $200,000, so as to open its
doors free to all students for at least ten
years, is exciting great interest. At a meet
ing of the Tyger River Baptist. Association,
iu Greenville district, on the 19th, upwards
of $5,000 was pledged to this purpose by
Ihose present.
The Greenville Kntm'prise learns that the
engineers of the Air Line Railroad have
passed Spartanburg on their route to Green
ville. The road has been definitely located
to Broad river, crossing it above Cherokee
Ford, leaving King’s and Crowder’s Moun
tains about tw miles to the north, and will
cross Pacolet some mile and a hal! above
the Iron Works. They expect to reach
Greenville in four or live weeks.
The Laurensville Herald, of Friday, says
oh last Saturday a large body ot armed ne
gro militia from this point, Clinton, and
Martin’s depot, marched through the coun
try to Jack’s old field, a rendezvous of a
local militia company. The pretext of this
long march was, that the white men would
on that day drive the local militia from its
muster ground. Joe Crews, and a number
of the Scott constabulary, led the company
from this quarter. About a thousand
armed men were marching on Friday night
and Saturday to this point. Old citizens,
sixty and seventy years old, were cursed
and insulted by the militia as they passed
their residences. In one case a lady was
cursed and told that herhusband should be
shot.
In Laurens, on Tuesday night last, a
crowd of some thirty or forty Radicals,
(colored), mobbed and beat an old colored
man, who at the. last election voted the
Democratic ticket.

a BAD BLOOD.”
| The Life is the Blood.”
ROM it we derive our strength, beauty
and mental capabilities. It is tbe centre of our
being, around which revolves ail that makes
existence happy. When this source is corrupt

shapes prominent among which is
SCROFULA.
. This is a taint or infection of the human or

from it. It exhibits itself in various shapes—
as Ulcers and Sores, Decayed Bones, Diseased

It bus been the custom to treat these dis
eases with Mercury and other Mineral sub

cure, often prove injurious and entails raiserj
in alter life. The long known injurious prop

to explore the arena of nature, tbe result ot
which has been the discovery ot vegetable pro
ducts which possess tbe power of eradicating
these taints from the blood.
