two pedals for the fe- t. to operate ; but the want
of t tie reversed or exhaustion bi llows (which
is the only bellows used in our instruments)
made it impossible for them to. produce tire me)
low. rich and musical tone for which our instill,
incuts are celebrated
Another objection to this method of blown g
was. that both feet being occupied, no opportu
nity was offertd for rhe management of the
swell* With the past two years, instruments
constructed on this European plan of “ double
blowers” have been manufacured in this coun
try. and to counteract this difficulty (want of a
swell) a lever has Been projected from the centre
of the instrument, to act upon the swell, am)
operated H 7 the knee The inconvenience and
contortion necessary to etr ct this obj.cr, are
disagreeable enough to a gentleman, but to a
lady the use of such an appendage is nearly im
possible.
Our Automat c device obviates this difficulty
entirely, the simple act of blowing with a more
or less force giving the desired increase or de
; crease in the volume of the tone. Wo predict
for this invention a brilliant future.
