A Good St iky—A very eminilfcAiar

was an important issue, nod in order to
save bis cause from defeat, it was otccs

ness He endeavored to do it -on the
giound of age. The following dialouge
ensued: . ,
Lawyer—How old are yon ?
Witness—Seventy-two years.
Lawyer—Your memory, of coarse, is
not so brilliant and vivid as it was twenty
years ago. is it ?
Witness— l do not know but it is.
Lawyer—State some circumstances
that occurred, say some twelve years ago,
and we shall be able to sec bow well you
can remember.
Wi ness I appeal to your honor if I
am to be interrogated in this manner; it
io insolent.
Judge—Yes sir; state it.
W itness—Will, sir, if you compel mo
to oo it, I will About twelve years ago,
you studied law in Judge D.’s office, did
you not?
Lawyer—Yes.
Witness—Well, sir, I temember your

me sls to buy him a suit of clothes. J
remember, also, sir, from that day to this
he has never paid me that sum. That,

Witness—l presume it will.
Josh Doiiag s Goose Talk.
The goose is a grass auirnal, but don’t
chaw her cud.
They are livers, about one aker to the
goes iz enuff, altho thar iz sum fokea
who thinks one goose tew 175 akers, ia
nearer rite.
These ton kiilcultuions are so fur apart,
it. iz difficult tew tell now, which will
finally win
Bu* I don’t think if I had a farm ov
175 akers, awl paid for, that I would sel
it for half what it waz worth, jest be
kauze it din’t hav but one goose on it.
Geese stay well, some ov our best bio
graphers say, 70 years, and grow tuff tew
the last.
They lay one egg at once, about the
size ova goose egg, in which the goslina
lies hid.
The goalins are the coose’s babe
The goose don’t suckle his young, but
turns httn out tew pasture on some
buddy’s vaeau lot.
They seem tew lack wisdum, but are
considered generally sound on the goose.
They are good eating, but not good
chawing, the reason ov this remains a
profound ,-ekrit tew this day.
When the fun ail goose iz at work
hatthin she iz a hard bird tew plcaze,
riles clear up from the bottom in ts minit,
and will Sight a yoke ov oxen, if they
show the least bit ov sass. The geese
iz excellent for feathers, which she sheds
every year by the hanful.
They are also amphibious, besides sev
eral other kinds ov cuss.
But they are merely sureist about one
thing, they kan haul one leg up into their
buddy, and stand un tuther, awl day, and
nuttueh cunything with their bands.
I take nous, thare ain’t l|ut darn few
men kati dew this.
