Americiis Schools.
11l the last issue of the Citizen the Ed!tor
asks : ‘Tluvc we any good Schools in Amer
iciis ?”
We are happy to inform the Doctor, and
at the same time, the public generally, that
we have several good schools here, where
youth can be thoroughly trained in a sound
English and Classical education.
Some of'the teachers aie '-old fogies,” but
fully understand the virtues of “Printer's
Ink,” as may be seen by reference to the ad
vertising columns of' the Republican.
Drs. Kashai.l & Stanford, \vi 1 open
the second term of their school in JRock 11 ill
Academy, on Monday, sth oth August, and
Messrs. Dodd & Hudson, will open their 2d
term on the 19th of August.
These are all teachers us long e.vpn ince
and established reputation, and their schools
.offer as many advantages as any in South
Western Georgia.
In addition to these schools we would re
mind the Citizen that Fallow Masonic Fe
male College is located in Americas, and its
teachers have demonstrated, time and again,
their high appreciation of “Printer’s Ink,”
and their ability to impart thorough instruc
tion iu both English and Classical literatuie.

22?“ The stringency in money mat
ters would be allivtued somewhat we
think if everybody would pay their
small debts. Many thoughtlessly
neglect or refuse to do so thereby pre
venting others from mooting their
little obligations. Tiicro is no ques
tion that wo will see very little busin
ess during the next tv*> months, and
it behooves all classes of citizens to re
creneli their expenses as much as
possible, but nothing can justify the
withholding of just dues to the labor i
cr, the grocer, or the mechanic. A
general effort on the part of all to
meet their current obligations will
visibly improve the condition of
tilings.— Houston Telegraph,
The above is very true, and no one j
more fully experiences it than news
paper publishers. Their accounts ,
generally arc small, but in the aggre
gate amount to a great deal. If all
indebted would promptly pay their
small bills, and large ones could soon
be managed.

contains much more truth than elegance.

Virginia.— lt is currently stated at
Washington that in the reconstruction of
Virginia it. has been agreed that the ne
groes shall have st least half tlie tffices,
including one of the Unite.l S'ates Sena
tors. It is safe to predict the same result
in other Southern States to look for a
piebald delegation to Congress from each
of them. “Alack,” the correspondent of
the Cincinnati Commercial, in'a recent
letter expresses the opinion that under
the rigid exclusion of all who, in any way
puttiei; a'ed in the rebellion, it would be
disirable to send a full negro delegation
from most, of the nbel States. The-only
whites who can come to . Congress are,
with few expeotions, inferior in intelli

class of negroes, from whom Senators
will undoubtedly be elected, the com
