PATENT MEDICINES.
DR. CHRISTIE'S ~
GALVANIC RINGS
AND
MAGNETIC FLUID.
THIS remarkable invention, which has received the
almost universal approbation of the medical pro
fession ol Great Britain, comprises an entirely new ap
plication of Galvanism, as a remedial agent, by means of
which the ordinary Galvanic Ra.teries, Electric and Mag
netic Machines, &c., are entirely dispensed with, and the
mysterious powers of Galvanism applied without any
of the objections which are inseperable from the gene
ral mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irregu
lar intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the Ma
chines, has been pronounced, after a fair and impartial
trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to remedy
this radical defect, that this new application was pro
jected, which after unceasing toil and perseverance, has
been brought to its present state of perfection. The
Galvanic Rings answer all thg purposes of the most
expensive Machines, and in many other respects are
more sake and certain in accomplishing the desired
effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with the
Magnetic Fluid, aie confidently recommended in all
D BORDERS WHICH ARISE FROM AN ENFEEBLED OR UN
HEATHY STATE OF THE NERVOUS OR VITAL SYSTEM, and
these complaints are among the most painful and uni
versal to which we are subject. They arise, without ex
ception, from one simple cause—a derangement of the
Nervous system—and it was in these cases that other
“ remedies” having so often failed, a new agent was
greatly needed, which it is confidently believed, has
been found in the proper and judicious application of
Galvanism.
The Galvanic Rings have been used with entire suc
cess in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic, ap
plying to the head, face or limbs : Gout, Tic-Dolorf.ux,
Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous or Sick
Headache, Indigestion . Paralyses, Palsy, 'Epilepsy,
Fits, Cramp, Palpitation of the Heart, Appoplexy,
Stiffness f Joints. Spinal Complaints, Kumbago,
Neuralgia, Nervous Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debili
ty, Deficiency of Nervous and Physical Energy,
and all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed
Dyspepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally suc
cessful. Their extraordinary effects upon the system
must be witnessed to be believed, and as a certain pre
ventive for the preceding complaints they are equal
ly recommended. The Rings are of different prices,
being made of all sizes, and of various ornamental pat
terns, ami can be worn by the mostdeiicate female without
the sli«rhte>t inconvenience. In fact the sensation is
rather agreeable than otharwise.
The Galvanic Belts, Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, Arc.
In some cases of a very severe character and of long
standing, the power as applied by the Galvanic R ings
is not sufficient t<» arrestthe progress of disease and ulti
mately to restore health. The improved modification in
the Galvan c Belts, Bracelets, Stc., entirely reme
dies this objection ; unydegree of power that is required
can readily he obtained, and no complaint which the
mysterious agent of Galvanism can effect will fail to be
permanently relieved. These articles arc adapted to tha
waist, arms, wrists, limbs, ancles or any part of ihe body
with perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces
are used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally; also jn cases of Ner
vous Deafness; and with almost uniform success as a
preventive for Apoplexy, Epileptic Fits, and similar
complaints.
Christie’s Magnetic Fluid.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings.and
all their modifications. This composition has been pro
nounced by the French Chemists to be one of the most
extraordinary discoveries of modern science. It is .be
lieved to possess a remarkable power of rendekiiig the
Nerves seiisitivf. to Galvauic actioii, by these means
causing a circulation of the influence at the seat of dis
ease, and thus giving rapid and permanent relief. No
other composition in chemistry is known to produce the
same effector to impart a similar property to the nervous
system by means of an outward local application. The
aiauiiETtc Fluid contains nothing caparde of tliesiight
est injury, -ppSctttiDii is agreeame, and it m nm ullc*
in its action »b it is beneficial in its result. Full explana
tions and directions accompany it. The combined in
ventions are in every way perfectly harmless; they are
at prices within reach of all, and the discoverer only re
quests a fair trial, as a test of their surprising crficacy
and permanent benefit.
Christie’s Galvauic Strengthening Plas
ters.
These articles form another valuable application of
the mysterious influence of Galvanism. They are an
important adjunct to the genuine Galvauic Riiigs and
their modifications, acting upon the same principle, but
ha ving this advantage of more local application. They
are confidently recommended as a valuable addition in
the speedy cure of Rheumatism, acute or chronic ; in
all nervous complaints, and as a positive remedy in cases
of Rain and Weakness id the Chest or Back. Pain in the
Side, in Asthmasic Affections, and in Weakness or Op
pression of the Pulmonary Organs. In Spinal Corn
plaints: their effects are of the most decided character,
and they have often been used with complete success.
They are also of the greatest advantage in Pains and
Weakness of the Breast , and are highly recommended
for many of those complaints to which lemales are
especially liable. As an effectual means for -Strengthen
ing the system when debilitated with disease or other
causes; as a certain aid in Constitutional Weakness, as a
Preventive tor Colds and In all affections of the Chest
generally the Galvanic Strengthening Plaster will lie
found of greataud pernianciitadvantage. Ina few words,
it embraces all the virtues of the best tome preparation
with the important addition of the Galvanic, influence,
which is neither impaired or exhausted, while, the action
continues. These articles will be found entirely free
from those objections which are a constant source of com
plaint with the ordinary Plasters in common use.
[UFThe ,r reat celebrity and success of these articles,

HOW AWFULLY CULPABLE,
TO N EGLETT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR’S BALSAM OF LIV ERWORT.
375 Bowkry, \. Y.
MUST those lie who have Pulmonary Consumption,
or any affection of the Lungs. Liver or Chest,
after reading iLe following letter, just received from a
m st respectable inhabitant of Westchester County
New York.
Tarrytown, Aug. 9, 1544.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to express the
gratitude which I feel towards you for tho interest you
have tak n to relieve me in :ny distress. In the year
1812 1 contracted a heavy cold, w hich finally settled on
my lungit; in a few months after I commenced coughing
and raising offensive matter, which smelt very had.
Having heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
cough I tried a few boxes of them, but they had not the
least effect on me. I then called iu the best physician in the
place, whoa tended me a few months, but without sm;
cess; 1 then saw an advertisement in one of tho oily
papersol Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I
purchased three bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nas
sau streets, hut I could not perceive tee least beneficial
effect from it, on the contrary 1 think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it 1 commenced raising
blood in largo quantities ; 1 was taken down sick and
confined to the house for three months, during whicii
time I lost my appetiie and fell away very fast; 1 was
then induced toconsult Dr. Curtis of New York, (one of
the best physicians in the city,) but lie could do me no
good. 1 again become worse, and was confined to the
house all last winter and spring, and I gave up all hope of
ever getting any better, as 1 again raised blood and my
cough was very severe, together with a pain in my breast
and under the shoulder blade. Mv friends now gate up
all hope of my recovering, and thought every (lay was
the last. About this time I heard of your BALSAM OF
iJVERWORT being good for consumption, but 1 was
like many others, and was fearful that it might be a regu
lar humbug; I however finally consented to try it, as I
thought it could make me no worse. My brother th' n
purchased a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y.. and I com
menced taking it, and by the fim“ 1 had used one bottle
full I could sleep ali night, and in the morning I irad an
appetite for my breakfast. 1 still keep on taking it and
find great benefit from it—the pain in mv breast is entire
ly gone, and f raise no more blood. VVil bin the last two
months I have gained in weight six pounds and much in
strength. I would therefore advise all who have any
affec ion of ihe Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
Taylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, for I truly believe It )o
bethe best remedy iu existence for diseases of the Lungs
or Liver, Should any one doubt the above statement re
lative to your valuable medicine, let him call on me, and
I will convince them of its virtue.
Yours respectfully, C. DE REVERE.
Beware of counterfeits, the only genuine has an engra
ved label (over tii<-outside wrapper of each bottle') with

of not creating acidity of the Stomach, which the sac
charine matter contained iu the Syrup, is apt to do,
where its use has been long eoutinued. The (fluid Ex
tract effectually obviates this difficulty; and may he used
forany length of time, with increased benefit.

And again—being well aware that the planters

several Presses, iur re-packing Round Hales into

just the thing they want. These Presses are now,

IN offering this valuable medicine to the people
of Georgia, for the relief and cure of many dis
eases incident to a southern climate, 1 do not claim

diseases. Butin Chronic Liver Affections and Dys

use, from my personal observation and use of the
article in ray own practice. This article is favora
bly received wherever it has been used. lam al
lowed to refer to Mr. George Heard of Troup, Mr.
John Warren of Columbus, Mr. McKaffee ol Cobb,
Mr. Asbury Hull of Athens, Mr. William D. Ter
rell of Putnam, Rev. John E. Dawson of Lagrange;
to which a great number of namesrnight be added,
who bear their testimony toils value. Dr. Henry
Branham has used this medicine in bis own case,
and has prescribed it to many others, gives it as bis
opinion, that it is one of the safest and most valua
ble medicines that can be used in imperfect diges
tion, liver complaints, constipation and irregular
state of the bowels. It is useful in bilious com
plaints, to persons recovering from bilious fevers,
and in sick or nervous head-ache. JTi pregnant
women, who are subject to costiveness, this medi
cine is well suited, lu regulating the state of the
stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion, it ia
particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, but for
bear, prefering to rely uu the virtues of the medi
