The guessing contest for the gas
range offered by the gas company,
will be cosed in a few days. Ladies
who have not yet registered their
names and guess at 310 Newcastle
street had best do so at once. This
stove is a very handsome one and is
certainly worth having.
Jumped the Sheriff.
It is understood that the young
white man Hendrix, who was arrest
ed by Deputy Sheriff Pyles and turned
over to Sheriff Hrooten of Tatnall
county, succeeded in jumping the
sheriff at Everett City Wednesday
night, while he was being taken to
Tatnall on the charge of selling whis
key in that county.

Sunday, January 19, being the birth
day of Robert E. Lee, and Tuesday.
January 21, being the birthday of
Stonewall Jackson, the program of
the Excelsior Literary Society of the
Glynn High School, to be rendered
today, consists of recitations, compo
sitions, and spelling relating to these
heroes. The program will be inter
spersed witli appropriate music. The
