AMUSEMENTS ON
THANKSGIVING
A VERY INTERESTING PROGRAM
OF SPORTS IS BEING ARRANG
ED FOR THE DAY.
It is probable that Thanksgiving
day will be an unusually lively one in
the amusement line tills year.
Arrangements are now being made
to arrange a very interesting program
of sports for the day. consisting of
boat, horse and bicycle races, and
other amusements.
The owners of a number of small
sailing craft have already interested
themselves in thr* matter, and are
n £ jw arranging for a race around
Marsh Island. Among tne boats that
will probably enter the race will be
trie Nica, Unknown, Carolina and a
number of others.
It has been suggested that the day
he made a great one. The military
companies may participate and help
with the amusements. It is probable
that a committee will he appointed at
an early date to arrange the prelimi
naries.

AN OLD MAID.
.Summers went and winters came,
it was always just the same,
You could see her looking oul upon
the slroet.
Ever crowded to the brim
With posies that wore blossoming
and sweet.
Taere arc modes, you know, In flow
ers
In this wayward world of ours.
And everyone she had was out of
style,
Double pinks and marigold,
All so curious and old
That folks who saw them couldn’t
help lull smile.
For they looked so much In place
With prim and staid old face
That the woman and the window
were its one,
As serious and quaint
As some vellum-painted saint
In the Latin lettered mlssai of the
nun.
Yet. she tiitd loved and lost
And in silence© paid tin (Ost,
And the life that seemed so different
from ours -
The hearl that seemed so still.
Was like her window siil-
It blossomed and It overran with
flowers.
