Atlanta, Aug. 22.—A landslide for
Hoke Smith, the people's candidate
for governor, was the result of the
primary held in Georgia today. It
is estimated that he will go into the
convention with a sufficient number
of votes to receive the nomination
on the first ballot.
While reports have been received
jicm) every county in the state
It is impossible to give the exact num
ber of counties carried by him, as
several are reported doubtful, while
it has been impossible to get aecur
returns from others. At flip head
quarters of Hoke Smith it is claimed
tjiat he has carried between 100 and
135 counties.
In Fulton, the home of the two At
lanta candidates, Hoke Smith won
over Howell by a majority of nearly
8,000.
Close Call in Chatham.
Savannah, Aug. 22.—Hoke Smith
made a great race in Kstill’s home
and came near carrying the county.
Estill’s majority was less than 500.
Howell’s Stronghold.
Columbus, Aug. 22.—Muscogee
county, once conceded to he Clara
Howell’s stronghold, went overwhel
mingly for 'Hoke 'Smith today. In
nearly every precinct in the county

Howell aut| it js believed that when
the official vote is consolidated it
will be fount] that .Muscogee went for
Smith two to one, ijis supporters
are jubilant over his victory.

Macon, Aug 2U.—-AVtih nearly all

carried Bibb county by a majority ot
275. It was a hard fight and was a

Another With Six Votes.
Augusta, Aug. 22. —Richmond coun
ty will probably give Hoke Smith a
majority of 1000 votes. He carried
Augusta by a largo majority but the
country districts probably cut
It down some. The county also went
for Sanford for comptroller.
Candler's Home.
Gainesville, Aug. 22.—After it was
learned tonight that Hoke Srnllh had
carried Hall county over Russell his
hundreds of supporters congregated
on the streets and were addressed
by Ex-Governor Candler, who paid
a glowing tribute to the excellent
fight made ‘by Hoke Smith in all sec
tions of the state. The fight was
close in this county but .Mr. Smith
