Mrs. Ann : e G- Bush whose ^maiden
name was Snead, was born in Augusta,
Ga., the 13th of Oct. 1831. She was
the relict of Col. It. H. Bush, who
died in Thomson, May 14th 1898. Mrs
Bush has lived in Thomson since 1857,
■he was the mother of ten children,
only three of which ar.> now living,
namely; Mrs. J. T. Neal, of Thomson,
Mrs. Hattie V. Hobbs and Mr. It. H.
Bush, of Augusta.
Mrs. Bush was the oldest member
of the Methodist church in Thomson,
and was the first president of tli3
foreign missionary society of that
church. She has been in declining
health for a number of years and died
at her home in Thomson on Wednes
day the 24th inst at 11 t. M.
The funeral services secured the
following day at the Methodist church
at 3:3(J P. M., conducted by Rev.
Wallace Rogers and Thos. H. Timmons.
The burial was in the Thomson
graveyard.
For about two months we have been
preaching prosperity in the South, and
some few folks have been talking a lit
tle bit dubiously about it. But ir. to
day's issue we carry, by special per
mission, atuxeept from Southern Farm
ing, one of th? Orange Judd weeklies,
published in Atlanta, from which some
wonderful facts may bo gleaned.
Through the South is producing un
doubtedly one of the most valuable
cotton crops ou records, the corn crop
is exceeding it in the matter of gain.
I Georgia is actually lending every state
! in relative and real gain in com pro-
; ductiou, the estimate increase being
i 35,000.000 bushels for the season over
! last year. Already we had estimated
| the increased yield at 25,000,000 bushels
| and these figures at least bear out our
! contentions. This means just so many
I dollars to the farmers. In other words,
j Georgia will reap approximately $300,-
"00.00 from corn and cotton alone, and
lor ll,o first time in history the Empire
State of the South may take second
place in point of agricultural wealth
production, Texas leading.
It is gratifying to sec such a marvel
ous record made in Georgia, but the
most satisfactory part of it all is the
| fact that our resources nre just begin-
I ning to be lealized and we have sim-
I ply just started on a career of progress
| and development. Georgia is going

Telephone Saved Child's Li
One of the children fell into a water tank on
an Alabama farm and was rescued unconscious and
apparently lifeless. The frantic mother rushed to
the telephone and called the doctor six miles away.
He told her what to do and started at once, but
before he arrived the child was out of danger.
The protection of women and children is only
one of the chief values of the telephone on the
farm.

“George,” said Mrs. Smith, sitting
up suddenly up in bed, ‘‘there a bur

“Nonsense!” replied her husband
drowsily, according to Pearson’s
Weekly.
“I’m quite right,” she returned.
