THE McDUFFIE PROGRESS, THOMSON, GA.
FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 192*.
NOTES FROM THE
COUNTY AGENT
POISON YOUR COTTON.
No farmer can afford not to poison
his cotton. It is true that your neigh
bor may make as much cotton as you
do without poison and he may do it
3 years out of four. Most farmers
lose in one bad year what they make
the previous few years. So for this
reason we hear very little of the pres
ence of weevils in the county. A lot
of us have hypmotized ourselves into
believing that we won’t suffer from
weevil injury this year. I am afraid
we will awaken to the fact too late.
The county agent picked picked 6
weevils on one small plot in a very
few minutes on May 30th. It stands
to reason that if one weevil will sur
vive another will do the same.
If we get knocked high as a kite
this fall, the whole county will be
spending money for poison another
year. Its too late to start a fight
after we lose a crop. If this be a bad
year, with the amount of money in
vested it will take us several years
to get back on our feet. We can’t
afford to take a chance. The wise
man will avert a possible calamity by
the judicious use of poison. If we
see no good affects from poison and
make a good crop we haven’t lost
anything. If we have a bad year and
save a crop we will have gained all.
The erample of Sumpter, Terrell
ar.d other counties should stand out
as examples to us. In 1922 these two
made 1-17 of the state’s cotton, last
year they averaged 1 bale to 10 acres
and many farms made as little as 1
bale to 20 acres. They didn’t use
poison from 1920 to 1923. This year
after last seasons failure and several
years setback more poison is being
used than inany county in the state.
It is a pity that hard times has to
choke the farmer into doing his duty
to himself and family. Most of us
humans had rather take the nine
than the stitch in time. We are in
good shape now our financial con
dition another year depends on good
judgment.
The business men all over the. coun
try are beginning to realize that
Thousands who had doctored for years and tried every
thing without lasting results have found complete relief
with Cleveland specialist’s new internal prescription.
Rinex capsules go direct to internal cause of Asthma and
remove it. So all wheezing, gasping, nnd coughing
vanish as if by magic. Blessed relief guaranteed in 24
hours—or money back. Send 10c for 24 hour sample
treatment to Clinical Laboratories Co., Clevelaud. Reg
ular size sold by all good druggists.
D aniel promised the farmers of Mc
Duffie county that they could get
these plants at that price and they
are still waiting for their delivery
we must insist that you give this
order preference over any other
orders, on account of its prior date,
and ship these plants to Mr. Daniel
just as fast as you can get them out.
You realize that Mr. Daniel has been
placed in a very embarrassing situ
ation with the farmers of his county
on account of your manner of hand
ling this order, and you are due Mr.
Daniel, the farmers of McDuffie coun
ty and the Market Bulletin through
which you obtained this order, ful
fillment of your contract. You thor
oughly understand you cannot make
a contract and then attempt to change
its terms arbitarily.
Please let'us hear from you by re
turn mail.
Yours very truly,

Atlanta, Ga , June 7, 1924.
Mr. P. L. Smith,
Baxley, Ga.
Dear Sir:
We are in receipt of letter from
Mr. G. C. Daniel, County Agent,
Thomson, Ga.,saying that he sent you
order for 120M potato plants togeth
er with check for $180.00 to pay for
same at $1.50 per M, and that you
immediately wrote him you could not
ship for less than $1.75 per M. He
states he then wired you back to ship
at $1.75, collecting the difference by
C. O. D. shipment. He further states
that he sent you check for 15M at
$1.75 and another check for $3 50,
and requested you to apply these
checks to the original order for 120M
at $1.75 and urging that you fill the
order for 120M at $1.75 as you had
agreed to do and cancel the order
for the 15M additional.
Mr. Daniel states over the phone
today that he has received three ship
ments from you, one of 25M, one of
'^45M which was 1M short in count,
one for 10M, which makes a total
shipment of 69M plants, leaving a
balance due him on his order for
120M, for which you have his checks
in hand to pay for, of 41M plants.
In view of the fact that you agreed
to make this shipment, and Mr.
My kidneys didn’t act right at all.
I tried Doan’s Pills and after using
a box my trouble disappeared and I
felt better generally.”
The above statement was given
March 19, 1918, and on February 16,
1923, Mrs. Mounce said: “I use
Doan’s Pills occasionally and they are
always sure to relieve me. I am
glad to confirm my former state
ment.”
