FRIDAY. DEC. 9. 1904.
Clearance Sale.
.Nearly all merchants bought
exceedingly large stocks of goods
tJhis season for the fall and win¬
ter trade in anticipation of an ex¬
ceptionally heavy trade, and
while the season opened with a
rush and large quantities of
goods have been sold, yet thf
fearful drop in the price of cot¬
ton has caused a re-action in
trade and therefore the sales of
merchandise have not been just
what they would have teen had
the money crop stayed up in the
neighborhood of 10 cents, bu 1
Camilla’s merchants are deter¬
mined to meet their customers
half way. so to speak, in the loss
they sustain in selling cotton at
the present prices by marking
goods down to the bottom notch
so that a hale of cotton will go
just about as far in its purchas¬
ing power now as it did in the be
ginning of the fall season.
In this particular Messrs.
Baggs & Perry, Camilla’s hust¬
ling young merchants, are not
exceptions. They bought exten¬
sively for this season’s trade. In
fact they put in the largest stock
ef fall and winter goods that they
ever bought, and while their
trade has been exceptionally
good, yet they are determined, if
low prices will move them, to
close out all la’land winter goods
as rapidly as possible, believing
that it is better to convert the
Ko ids into cash rather than carrv
them over if it lias to be done at
a sacrilic'*.
To this end they have put on
-what they call a Clearance Sale
for the next thirty days in which
they propose to meet the low
price of cotton with unequaled
low price goods. It is not a mill
and factory syndicate sale, for
they only last ten days, while
fcnisone will run three times as
long and prices on all merchan¬
dise will be cut to the lowest pos¬
sible figures. They are deter¬
mined that the people shall be
informed of this sale by placing
a two - page advertisement in the
Enterprise, besides sending out
five thousand two-page dodgers
tu-every section of the county,
thus advertising their sale and
at the same ume advertising Ca¬
milla as the best place in this
section in which to buy goods.
Remember that this sale is
now on and will continus for
thirty days.

CHRISTMAS ALMOST HERE.

And Camilla Merchants Can Sup¬
ply Your Every Want in
Presents.
Only two weeks intervene be¬
tween now and the time when
you will need something in the
way of a present to make happy
the hearts of your loved ones or
your friends, and, in keeping
with their usual foresight in look¬
ing alter the wants of their cus¬
tomers, the merchants of Car- ilia
have prepared to meet every de¬
mand.
The general stores have many
things i i stock from which you
can select useful and ornamental
gifts, while Perry’s Pharmacy
and the Lewis Drug Company,
have literally turned their up-to
date drug stores into veritable
ware rooms for good Santa Claus,
wfy> never fails to make his an¬
nual visit to the homes of the
people of this favored section of
the world
It is at these two places that
you can find almost anything
you may want in toys, dolls, chi
naware, pictures, glassware, sil¬
verware and many other things
in the way of Christmas goods
too numeious to mention; and at
prices to fit the -pocket book of
every class of purchasers.
The Enterprise will not ex
agerate when it states that Ca¬
milla’s stores, dressed as they
are now in their .holiday attire,
would do credit to any city,
and will surpass many towns of
more pretentions claims to popu¬
lation and business.
This has heen a prosperous
year with all classes of Mitchell
county’s citizenship. Splendid
crops have been made and fair
pricei leceivei for all kinds
of products, an i while the price
of cotton has fallen far below ex¬
pectations, yet he r people have
plenty and there is no real reason
why they should not make merry
during the glad Christmas time
in giving and receiving gifts one>|
from another.
This happy occasion is com
memorative of the appearance of
the Blight Star which directed
the wise men of the East to the
Christ to whom they brought
gifts, thus setting the world an
example that has been followed,
more or less for ages in all Chris¬
tian lands.
The presents are here, the
prices are low and there is no
excuse why yon cannot make
seme one happy with a Christmas
gift.
